đź”’Safe storage saves lives! Our colleagues at @nationwidekids developed this great infographic for concrete steps to develop and execute a safe storage plan for potentially harmful items in your household.
ALT This is an infographic with information about how to store potentially harmful objects in your household. Safe storage of potentially harmful items is everyone’s responsibility. It is hard to predict when someone might experience an emotional crisis, so keeping your home safe at all times is a smart decision. Suicidal thoughts can come on quickly in response to highly stressful situations, and in these moments, the brain does not think as clearly. By making sure that potentially harmful items are secured, you can get ahead and protect yourselves and your friends before a crisis can even start. Don’t do this alone. Team up with your caregiver and talk about safe storage. Firearms should be stored unloaded and with the ammo separately stored. Only currently used medications should be kept in the house. Finally, talk with your household about other everyday objects that could cause harm. 24/7 help for suicidal thoughts is available by calling 988, texting "HOPE" to 741-741, or 911.

5. Be aware of scams. If you are considering an online therapy company, research what requirements a therapist needs to meet before taking clients (they might vary). Also, be cautious of any therapist who tries to sell you additional products during your session. (6/7)
6. Finally, trust your instincts! If you are finding it difficult to build a relationship or make progress with your current provider, they may not be right for you! Finding a therapist can be challenging, but it is important to find the best, personalized care possible.(7/7).
2. Consider what you would like to get out of therapy. Some providers may have special training which can help better meet your needs. You may also want a provider who shares similar identities with you. We have another thread dedicated to different types of professionals. (3/7)
4. Not all therapy is effective. You may want to ask your therapist what type of therapy they give and confirm whether it was developed based on research. A great resource for seeing generally what evidence-based treatments are is mn.gov/mmb-stat/results-firs…. (5/7)
3. If you have health insurance, identify what your behavioral health copay is. This will be the amount you pay per session. Be aware that not all therapists will accept insurance, so this is something important to ask since it will affect the cost. (4/7)
How do you find a therapist? Once you decide you are interested in receiving therapy, it can be hard to know what steps to then take. Learn more about finding professional mental health support and low-cost options at en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Help… & with the summary below ⬇️ (1/7).
1. A variety of websites can be used. Consider using psychologytoday.com/us or your insurance provider to get a sense of all the in-person and telehealth options in your area. (2/7)
