I'm reading compelling The Day I Die by @AnitaHannig. Tenderly & straightforwardly written it captures lived experience of dying & #MAID in the US. Little details like what do you do when with a group of family at a loved one's end (do you bring sandwiches?) really bring it home

The Oregon-based law that we campaign for is very prescriptive. It would only be available to dying people. The number who actually use it is very small, and have remained so in Oregon. Your fears are unfounded
It's a cost saving measure. They see people with poor health as an inconvenience. They'd rather kill us off than invest in medical treatment or pay disability benefits.

The case for #assistedsuicide (let us call it what it is) rests upon emotion rather than on facts or deeper understanding of the issues invloved. It is inherently exploitative of understandable but misplaced fears about the end of life.
