Yes, and I've also seen people manifestly ignorant of film, literary, and musical history who assumed that what they've heard of first was the original just because they've heard of it first. I've found that I cannot make any assumptions about knowledge on this site particularly.

I can't imagine a WORSE poem than "The Raven" to pick to argue there's no more subtext to it than how much the poet likes ravens. Hell, at least pick a poem where the bird is portrayed positively like Shelley's "To a Skylark", instead of it being portrayed as a bird of ill omen.

Every poptimist comment on the discourse about orchestras playing movie scores live features someone talking about how this will bring new people to classical music in ways that show they themselves have NO IDEA what classical music is. The following comment is a case in point:
