Hip-hop pioneer Ice-T is gearing up for the release of his upcoming album Criminal Migraine, which is currently scheduled to arrive in August. The rollout campaign is expected to begin in July, but the veteran rapper decided to give fans an early taste of the project by briefly posting a new song on Instagram for 24 hours to gauge audience reaction.
The track, titled βNo Competition,β is produced by Afrika Islam, one of Ice-Tβs most trusted creative partners dating back to the rapperβs rise in the late 1980s. Afrika Islam played a significant role in shaping the sound of landmark Ice-T releases and has remained a frequent collaborator throughout his career.
In his Instagram post, Ice-T explained that he βjust felt like posting a track for 24hrsβ to check fansβ temperature on the forthcoming album. The move generated immediate discussion among followers eager to hear new solo material from the West Coast icon, whose recording career spans nearly four decades. While he has remained highly visible through his work with the metal band Body Count and his long-running television career, solo hip-hop releases have arrived less frequently in recent years.
Criminal Migraine marks another chapter in a catalog that includes influential albums such as Rhyme Pays, Power, The Iceberg/Freedom of Speech⦠Just Watch What You Say! and O.G. Original Gangster. Ice-T helped establish the blueprint for West Coast gangsta rap during the late 1980s and early 1990s, while continuing to bridge hip-hop and heavy music through Body Count, whose latest studio album, Merciless, arrived in 2024.
With the official rollout set to begin next month and No Competition serving as an early preview, fans now have their first indication of what Ice-T has planned as he prepares to return with his first full-length solo rap project in years.
