⭕️ "For the first time, there is a path to correcting the digital world,” Dr. Maya Ackerman tells the American Jewish Committee.
She was talking about using targeted lobbying and tech advocacy directly with artificial intelligence companies to shape how AI outputs handle content regarding Israel and Zionism.
Dr. Ackerman—an AI researcher, Associate Professor at Santa Clara University, said pro-Israel advocates historically "missed the boat" when it came to managing or countering narratives on open social media networks and massive data open-sources like Wikipedia.
Rather than trying to control or monitor the vast, decentralized "blob" of the entire internet, she argues that AI presents a unique shortcut. Because people increasingly trust and turn to centralized AI models (like chatbots and text-to-image generators) over traditional social media for information, advocates can narrow their focus.
AI presents an incredible opportunity for Jews because "instead of trying to control the whole world" and "manage" social media, "we can go directly to the companies" with "advocacy solutions," Dr. Maya Ackerman tells the American Jewish Committee.
"For the first time, there is a path to correcting the digital world!" Ackerman says.
