Thinking time to draw a line under Twitter. A great conservation community that helped me keep going through Covid times, but just an empty shell now. Happy Christmas, and see you all on B-sky :)

I love to see buildings I've worked on in the past fully repaired. Was involved with St Helen's some 20 years ago! Well done to those involved
At its core, St Helen's, Barmby on the Marsh is a medieval structure. However, the character of this Yorkshire is largely provided by its later Georgian features. 1/6

This collapse......having viewed internally (from a distance!) it is actually caused by a collapse on the rear slope, puhsing the front outwards.

....was in there with a client having a drink a few weeks ago 🙃
Ye Olde Fighting Cocks in St Albans, Hertfordshire, is an interesting building, but not quite as ancient as claimed. Supposedly dating back to 793, instead the building started as a dovecote, dated around 1400, originally standing at the nearby monastery.

Lime ash floor: at 3 inches thick, 7 times heavier than floorboards. This truss was up to the job until beetle decay set in, right at midspan :( @IHBCtweet @SPABScotland @HistoricEngland
