I really enjoyed this episode of @_jburden's show with guest @AydinPaladin about liberal narcissism, the limits of empathy, and critiquing the diagnosis of Leftism as "suicidal empathy." youtu.be/R7ZdsIYQMi8

The usual suspects showed up in this thread. "But power windows, airbags, horsepower and air conditioning!!1!1!" A Changan Kaicene F70 starts at $13,500 and goes up to $19,500. (In China) Base has ABS and AC. Top trim has everything including ESC, LDW, LCD you name it. 211-230hp (diesel or gas). Only ~$600 of that is labor. Labor cost for a Maverick (made in Mexico) is ~$1000. Labor cost for a Hyundai Santa Cruz is ~$1500. Lets double the labor cost of the Hyundai because we want American workers to make a lot of money. $3000. $2400 addl labor cost over China and the Kaicene is $15,900-$21,900. Oh, and the Kaicene is a larger body on frame (vs unibody) and has literally double the towing capacity. Weighs 500-700lbs more. (More manufacturing cost) China is not cheap because of cheap labor. America is not expensive because of air conditioning. America is expensive because the people who run it are criminals, morons, and thieves.
Adjusted for inflation, a new Ford Ranger in 1986 cost ~$19,000. A 2026 Ranger starts at $33,350. I blame avocado toast.

A Ford Ranger was 37% of the median wage in 1986, and is 52% of the median wage in 2026. This is your fault, and you need to walk into an office and give 'em a good handshake.

I have an interview dropping next week with a gentleman who wrote a book on how the Patent clause in the Constitution has been abused by the removal of two words - ‘time limited’, and how this has lead to 58% of our economy being monopolized. In conjunction with unconstitutional regulatory burdens, other manufacturers are prevented from re-building patent expired equipment like is allowed in much of the rest of the world. There’s another undiscussed reason most cars, trucks, and other equipment are insanely expensive today, and it’s not because that equipment is necessarily ‘better’.

If you want a full-size truck, a 2026 F-150 starts at $39,330. In 1986, it would run you $25,000. I blame $28 lunches.
