This
#PhotoOfTheWeek, we look at a mock-up of the
@ATLASexperiment detector, assembled by Jan Brajer from the ATLAS Detector Operation group, in comparison with the real-size detector.
These images show a model of ATLAS composed of 400 parts, a present to an ATLAS technical coordinator, who retired earlier this year after almost a decade of work on the ATLAS detector.
The real deal sits on a cavern 100m below ground, one of two general-purpose detectors at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). It investigates a wide range of
#physics, from the
#Higgs boson to particles that could make up
#DarkMatter.
