On this day in 1954, John Foster Dulles and the United Fruit Company organise the landing of the CIA’s Exile Army to Guatemala to begin the coup against President Jacobo Árbenz. Árbenz had become enormously popular, with an Agrarian Reform policy which saw uncultivated portions of large land-holdings expropriated in return for compensation and redistributed to poverty-stricken agricultural laborers. Approximately 500,000 people benefited from the decree. Árbenz had threatened to nationalise the United Fruit Company, which was an arm of US imperialism. John Foster Dulles owned significant stock in the United Fruit Company. The coup was led by CIA asset General Castillo Armas, what would follow would be 4 decades of US-backed brutality by successive dictatorial regimes, which fought to protect US interests. Among the horrors was the genocide of the Maya people.

Puerto Rico is a colony of the United States, and citizens in many areas of the island have been without regular running water for a month, and are dependant on water trucks to deliver clean drinking water. This is happens as the US gov't starves Cuba, another Caribbean island.
Thousands of people in Puerto Rico have had no access to water or electricity for 4 weeks. Citizens are having to collect water in buckets in 95 degree weather. Brought to you by the corrupt and mismanaged US colonial rule.

So basically now we have America accusing China of using slaves to pick cotton, Japanese saying China is populist and militarist, Canadians saying China oppresses indigenous people, and Indians saying China has a caste system. So basically China is a mirror.

Supporting 🇨🇺Cuba also means supporting 🇵🇸Palestine! 👇Listen to this story, Cuba's medical solidarity is felt in many parts of the world. Murid is a Gazan that has become a doctor in Cuba. Every year, Cuba grants free scholarship to Palestinian youth to study medicine, more than 30,000 have already graduated from it and are serving in West Bank and Gaza.

a nation is a people with a shared language, historical territory, integrated economy and psychological make-up; a state is a system of tools used by one class to suppress another. i.e. opposition to "the Nation state" is a Trojan horse to inject chauvinism into anti-imperialism
this is a false dichotomy, two things can be true at once, one can support anti-imperialist liberation struggles without treating the nation-state as the endpoint of emancipation, opposing the nation-state isn't opposing liberation, it's refusing to confuse the means with the end

One of these people is an 83 year old Priest who held up a sign expressing her right to free speech. The other has decapitated his political enemies with a knife. Guess which the UK government calls a terrorist, and which gets invited to number 10 for dinner.

Crazy how there are stories like this every day in the USA, but Americans will still eat it up when politicians say we have to do something about China or Russia or Iran's violation of human rights. Most propagandized people on the planet
An investigation into Mississippi's solitary confinement system says that incarcerated people were held alone for weeks, months, or even years, with lights on nearly all day, little human contact, limited showers, and worsening mental health. At least 47 people under Mississippi's solitary torture program died by suicide in the past decade. A DOJ investigation in 2024 described "restrictive housing units" as "breeding grounds" for suicide, self-injury, fires, and assaults. Solitary confinement is obviously an uncivilized and brutal practice that doesn't help our country. Depriving humans of connection, dignity, and hope will never rehabilitate anyone. It's torture. There's no excuse why our criminal justice system should be multiplying violence and trauma with more violence and trauma.

Dr Walter Rodney was assassinated on June 13, 1980, by a bomb planted in a walkie talkie. He was 38. His key work, How Europe Underdeveloped Africa, exposed the roots of global inequality and the violence of colonial underdevelopment.

98 years ago, Ernesto “Che” Guevara was born. What made Che unique was the unorthodox current of Marxism-Leninism he represented ■ Unlike those who believed revolution had to wait until all the perfect material conditions emerged, Che argued that revolutionaries had a duty to create those conditions through struggle itself. His theory of guerrilla warfare held that even a small group of committed revolutionaries could spark broader popular movements rather than waiting indefinitely for history to move on its own. ■ He believed that revolution was not just an external process, but an internal, almost spiritual, struggle to develop new values, ethics, and forms of consciousness: the creation of a “New Man.” ■ Che also rejected the idea that socialism could be built in one state and survive indefinitely in isolation, and his life reflected the belief that the struggle for socialism had to be global or risk total defeat.
