Last month, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed SB 1296 into law — a major win for workers and a direct blow to union bosses.
This landmark bill requires at least 50% of the entire bargaining unit to cast ballots before a union election can be certified, ending the practice of unions claiming to represent workers based on a fraction of the vote.
It also ends taxpayer-funded paid leave being used for political campaigning, lobbying, and recruitment. From now on, this will be limited to core union responsibilities like contract negotiations and grievances.
The Freedom Foundation helped make this happen. Florida's public workers now have a real tool to fight back.

Arizona voters will finally get a say on whether taxpayer dollars should keep propping up teachers’ union organizing.
The Legislature just passed HCR 2040—a Freedom Foundation-backed measure—after a tense, all-night session to wrap up the 2026 legislative year. The resolution now heads to the November ballot.
This is a major step toward ending the long-standing practice of forcing taxpayers to subsidize union politics inside public schools.

We've helped 7,500 New Yorkers opt out of union dues. So instead of making a better case for membership, unions asked Albany to make it illegal.

The Freedom Foundation has helped more than 278,000 public employees across the country leave their union. In New York alone, nearly 7,500 workers have used our materials to resign, including 1,400 this year.
So instead of making a better case for why workers should stay, unions are asking Albany to make it illegal to inform them that they can leave — with $1,000 fines per mailing designed to bleed us dry.
As the Journal puts it: "No wonder unions are desperate to shut down the Freedom Foundation."

New York just passed a bill designed to fine the Freedom Foundation out of existence for telling workers they can leave their union. 7,500 NY public employees have already used our materials to do exactly that. The WSJ editorial board sees it clearly — this is a union protection act, not a worker protection act. Gov. Hochul shouldn't sign it.
