BREAKING NEWS : Nobel Laureate Narges Mohammadi Transferred to Hospital The Narges Foundation has been informed that Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi was urgently transferred to a hospital in Zanjan today following a catastrophic deterioration of her health, including two episodes of complete loss of consciousness and a severe cardiac crisis. This transfer was done as an unavoidable necessity after prison doctors determined her condition could not be managed on-site, despite standing medical recommendations that she be treated by her specialized team in Tehran. Her family, who has advocated for weeks for her transfer to adequate facilities, described this transfer as a desperate, "last-minute" action that may be too late to address her critical needs. #FreeNarges #NargesMohammadi

Narges Mohammadi’s life is in danger and she must be released immediately! Narges is a brave and inspiring Iranian woman who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 and was violently detained on December 12 of last year. For years, she has been persecuted for her tireless work in favor of a free and democratic society, and today her family fears for her serious health condition in prison. We have been informed of the brutal conditions under which she is being held. Her condition worsened after she was transferred to a prison in the city of Zanjan, where other inmates convicted of homicide and aggravated assault are also being held. Her family is deeply concerned because she was found unconscious in her bed in the ward, and reports indicate that she may have suffered a heart attack. They fear this may be part of a plan to let her die in prison. Despite the efforts of her lawyers and relatives, the authorities in Zanjan deny any responsibility, claiming that the Intelligence Ministry has forced them to keep her in these conditions. We urge the international community, the UN Human Rights Council, and human rights organizations to intercede on Narges’s behalf and demand that her captors respect her life and release her immediately. Please join your voice and your strength in defense of Narges Mohammadi’s life and freedom.

AN URGENT MESSAGE FROM THE NORWEGIAN NOBEL COMMITTEE REGARDING NARGES MOHAMMADI The Norwegian Nobel Committee is alarmed by reports of serious threats against Narges Mohammadi, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023. Ms. Mohammadi was awarded the prize for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all. In an urgent phone call with Jørgen Watne Frydnes, Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Ms. Mohammadi stated that she has – both through her lawyers and through indirect channels – received warnings. The clear message, in her own words, is that “I have been directly and indirectly threatened with 'physical elimination' by agents of the regime.” The threats conveyed to Ms. Mohammadi make it clear that her security is at stake, unless she commits to end all public engagement within Iran, as well as any international advocacy or media appearances in support of democracy, human rights, and freedom of expression. “The Norwegian Nobel Committee is deeply concerned about the threats against Narges Mohammadi and, more broadly, all Iranian citizens with a critical voice, and call upon the authorities to safeguard not only their lives, but also their freedom of expression”, says Jørgen Watne Frydnes, Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee. Shirin Ebadi highlights all the various factions which have argued for 44 years to the benefit of the Islamist govt. We need the current regime to go. We need democracy. We then can choose between monarchy and republican democracy.

#NobelPeacePrize 2023: honoring Narges Mohammadi. Difficult question on the fractious opposition. Nazanin Boniadi talked of her attempt to bring factions together around one single goal: secular democracy. We need political unity. It is not easy. But lets start with one goal.
