I’ve been reporting on the surveillance economy for a while and was still completely shocked by what we found. Another example of why it’s necessary to have real-world data when investigating tech platforms. You can’t find these sorts of violations with automated web scraping.

To my knowledge, Chile would be the first country outside of the European Union that will provide for the existence of an independent supervisory authority for data protection at constitutional level:
Yesterday, the Constitutional Convention of Chile voted to create a Data Protection Authority independent that supervises, through investigative and corrective powers, the application of the data protection law (in discussion).

For a hot minute, it looked like political campaigns would be covered by a state privacy law (Virginia). But amendments passed just undid that. You will not have the right to tell campaigns not to sell your data or to delete it.
