I am very excited to share our publication describing the negative impact of inflammasome activation by a Plasmodium parasite derived molecule on the quality of anti-malarial humoral immunity.
Hemozoin-mediated inflammasome activation limits long-lived anti-malarial immunity dlvr.it/S6mQyq

Twitter friends—I need help! I’m moving to the DMV area for a job in Gaithersburg. Any guidance on the ideal location for a young (single) professional to live—with a “moderate” commute—would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats Rahul!! 🎉 I’m so excited to see how science in the @VijayImmunology lab progresses in the coming years. But—I will miss having my dear friend on the adjacent bench. 😩
Vijay Lab will start functioning at Chicago Medical School (Rosalind Franklin University) in the Center for Cancer Cell Biology Immunology and Infection starting July 1st.

Interesting new publication from @VijayImmunology identifying molecular cues that can drive plasmablast formation. I’m very excited to see how this work informs our understanding for PB generation in other models of infection and disease.
.@VijayImmunology, Butler et al. identify that the formation of plasmablast populations in Plasmodium-infected mice is mechanistically linked to both hemolysis-induced exposure of phosphatidylserine on damaged RBCs & inflammatory cues. bit.ly/3dN07ea #InfectiousDisease

I was honored to discuss my path to immuno research and the 1000 Black scientists list compiled by @phdgprotein86. In 20 years of training, I had 1 Black teacher/professor. Students need to see us and science need true diversity! @uiowa @uiowabiomed  medcom.uiowa.edu/theloop/new…

It’s been a pleasure to be mentored by and to learn the true value of mentorship from AJ @phdgprotein86. His mentee @IHicsasmaz is spreading the good word in this @CellMentor piece.
It's been 1 year since @phdgprotein86 published the first 100 Inspiring Black Scientists in America list at Cell Mentor. Now, Hinton's mentee @IHicsasmaz helps us understand the man who challenged us to redefine what a "scientist" looks like. crosstalk.cell.com/blog/the-…

This sort of foolishness why we are going to be trapped in the house all of 2021!! Also, another reminder of why you should not trust all the food at work potlucks...

I think that we can all agree that any day ending in -y is the perfect day to brag about a colleague. @calvinscarter is doing incredibly innovative work. Hiring committees—you’re welcome...@uiowabiomed @uiowa

All of this ‘forgive and forget’ talk is why we are still dealing with this insanity >150 years later...And no, a ‘quick zoom training in coming weeks’ is not going to cut it!

My neighbor praying about the runoff: Dear God—Please let the people of GA deliver the US this day. If you can make this happen, we promise to stop depending on southern Black people to carry us some time during the next 400 years. Amen.

It’s an amazing honor to be included with this aspirational group of scientists. Thanks to @phdgprotein86 and @CommOfScholars for compiling this list. Additional thanks to @CellMentor for standing as true allies of the Black scientific community with the publication of this list.
With this final list, @CommofScholars and @phdgprotein86 hope to dismantle the myth that outstanding Black scientists make up a small percentage of the scientific community. Read more in @CellMentor: crosstalk.cell.com/blog/1000…

#LRPchat I’m thankful that @phdgprotein86 introduced me to this program. I’m not sure which category my research best fits in—are there staff available that can help with this decision?

If you need tips on engaging Black students (any mentee really) in STEM—consider the strategies employed by Dr. AJ Hinton @phdgprotein86. Check out this interview : medcom.uiowa.edu/theloop/new…

So excited! I have only met 4 or 5 black immunologists in person ever, so I’m super pumped to expand my network. One day (next year?) we might even get to meet colleagues in person again...
