Thanks to @Liebenwalde for verifying what I had long suspected: that game engines are called "game engines" largely because John Romero and John Carmack were car guys. 😝
"And so when we started doing the Commander Keen thing, we basically named it an engine and it could have been because we're totally into cars and, you know, just kind of, like, Carmack was totally into cars, I was into cars and it kind of made sense, like ... (continued)

I've decided to determine this scientifically. Here's my first pass with my subjective opinion about current relevancy of each of the lines. Reply with your suggested changes *and* reasoning for them. Everything will be considered. We'll figure it out.
I wonder what amount of lines in "It's All About the Pentiums" is still relevant vs the lines that aren't? 🤔 I guess what I'm really asking is what if it's not all about the Pentiums anymore? 😮

Round two of Extra Life starts at 10am PST today! Starting off with @aaronsgiles's masterful Mac port of Dark Forces, before moving on to hacking up the Mac version of System Shock. Stop in and say hi! Remember, I don't see a dime of this; all proceeds go to help kids in need. ❤️
I'm back again this year for @ExtraLife4Kids 2022, raising money for @CMNHospitals by streaming selected gems dug from my collection of classic Mac games (and others). Looking forward to seeing some of you in the chat when I go live on November 5th! 😎 extra-life.org/participant/b…

My streaming machine locked up during the Dark Forces run and I'm working on getting it back online. No ETA but hopefully soon!

Back online!
I'll be starting with Monkey Island 2 at 12pm Pacific Time, streaming until 12am today. Donating is just one way you can support my efforts. Other ways include raiding, sharing my campaign link with friends, or even just dropping into the stream chat to say hi. See you there! 😎

We're live!
I know some folks follow me because of my involvement with a Certain CD-ROM Adventure Game Franchise, so I just wanna say that every time some major news comes out of Cyan, I let Certain People know. 😉

This reminds me of one of my last professional game projects when near the ship date the EP asked me to print out the first and last few pages of source code for the US Copyright Office. I gave him a look, and he gave me a look back that said "Yeah I know this is ridiculous, but"

Happy Friday all.

As I recall I printed out the file containing main(), and then... I think some random code elsewhere? Because who knows where the "end" of the source code is? 🤷

A small FYI: Starting with macOS Ventura, the Preview app no longer supports PostScript (.ps) and Encapsulated PostScript (.eps) files.

I mean, to be fair, "The Journeyman Project: Pegasus Prime" as a title says absolutely nothing about what the game is to somebody unfamiliar with the franchise. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The Criss Angel show at Planet Hollywood in Vegas tonight definitely used NIN's "A Warm Place" as background music. I wonder if he and Trent are buddies...
Meow Wolf is like if you took every weird environment from every obscure 90s CD-ROM adventure game and built them in a single location to explore for real.

Mortal Kombat's digitized martial artists went to court for more credit in the '90s. And this is what ended up happening: arstechnica.com/gaming/2022/…

I'm finalizing my Extra Life playlist for 2022. I did a HyperCard game and a text adventure last year, so I want to do a World Builder game this year but can't decide on which one to do. (Ray Dunakin's games would take me too long, sorry.) Which classic WB game should I attempt?

For longer than I care to admit, I honestly thought "My Own Worst Enemy" was a blink-182 song. 🤷

When a platform's apps need to go through approval by the platform's owner and then only run on devices produced by the same, that's not an "open ecosystem." And no, working around that with a developer account... doesn't count. 😉

If you're in charge of an up-and-coming platform, take a good hard look in the mirror before you take potshots at the established players. If it walks like a duck... 😉
