The Israeli administration at
#DamonPrison banned Palestinian female prisoners from wearing the
$hijab, confiscating their jilbabs, hijabs and niqabs, and replacing them with gray tracksuits that do not include anything to cover the head. With winter approaching, each prisoner is left with only one outfit for the summer, as the prison administration refuses to provide them with warm or additional clothing.
The new measures affect 94 female prisoners and were implemented following the appointment of a new director. The prisoners were told that these new regulations would be enforced permanently as a retaliation for the October 7 attack, according to a statement from the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs.
The statement also revealed that the female prisoners are subjected to daily arbitrary searches at dawn, with guards forcing them to undergo strip searches and confiscating their most basic belongings. For example, “threads they had pulled from blankets to make bracelets for entertainment during the long daytime hours,” were seized.
In further detail, the retaliatory measures reached the point of moving the “light switches outside the prisoners' rooms and canceling the internal switches, allowing the guards to control the lighting times according to their mood.”
