LOOK DOWN πŸ¦‰ North America's only ground-nesting owl lives right here in South Florida. The burrowing owl is smaller than a coffee cup and tougher than it looks. Let's go find some!

Pretty quiet morning and no sign of our otters, yet. I know you guys are huge fans of these marsh rabbits so enjoy this one munching on grass.

LET'S GOOOOO 🦦 I had these two small pups sneak up on me and come right up to me within FIVE FEET of me to the point where I have photos of them blurred and out of focus, gah!! What a surreal encounter before they slinked right back into the water right before my eyes. I did get the group again on shore marking territory but the harsh backlighting and the fact they're such dark subjects made it tough. I'll have to see if the photos can be salvaged in post. The footage came out great though!!

Hey @elonmusk congrats on becoming the world's first trillionaire! Wanna donate a couple bucks towards our American non-profit @xploristsociety? Currently we're just a two-man team producing grassroots independent projects in hopes of inspiring more to go outside and appreciate our American wilderness! I know we have the makings of the next NatGeo and I think we can do a lot of good if you gave us a chance! Thank you for your attention to this matter πŸ™‡

I can't remember which of my followers asked me for a yellow-crowned night heron, but here's one I photographed the other day. I hope you like it.

I should probably do more astrophotography.
I love photography, but only if it’s really really really hard

Found this guy soaking up the sun. Meet the brown basilisk, a lizard that doesn't belong here but has made South Florida home. Originally from Mexico and Central America, brown basilisks arrived in Florida through the pet trade and have been spreading across the southern half of the state ever since. Fun fact: they're nicknamed the "Jesus lizard." When startled, they can sprint across the surface of water on their hind legs to escape predators. It's one of the stranger things you'll witness in the wetlands!

Beyond the edge of the map, the Everglades hides a world few people ever see. "King of the Everglades" is a quest into that Lost World, and what we're chasing is bigger than the largest crocodile in Florida. We're chasing what's left of the Wild.

Wanted to showcase some footage captured for our "Lost World" chapter of our "King of the Everglades" docuseries we've been working on. I've talked about it before but the logistics of this region that I've labeled as 'No Man's Land' offers a unique challenge. Without getting too spoilery, there's only one way into this area and you have to time it as the tide rises so the cross-current actually shoots you into this region. The other problem is you have to battle an insane tidal jet during that short window to reach this stretch of backcountry. Oh, did I mention this entire region is a designated 'No Motor Zone' too? The other aspect is underwater footage. I've been debating on how we could get underwater snorkel footage of the crocodiles and it poses a nightmare scenario. Not only is visibility extremely sketchy in the backcountry brackish "milky" water, I've learned it's FULL of American crocodiles. I'm no Jeremy Wade and I certainly have no budget for a full production team, but there are just too many variables against us here for decent underwater footage we want for this specific chapter... So far. I enjoy these kinds of production challenges because you have to get creative with visual storytelling and make things work as best as you can between a two/three man team. Still hashing out ideas but I'm sure we can come away with some extraordinary content for you guys!
