I’ve seen some objections to comparisons of AICOA to the DMA. This much is true: the two are not, provision for provision, identical. However, many policies in AICOA resemble the DMA’s, and we ignore EU experience at our peril. TL;DR: Don’t brush past @GDufault’s warnings:
American Innovation & Choice Online Act (AICOA) was just reintro'd, drawing wide-ranging opposition from a coalition led by @actonline and @ITIFdc. Nice coverage of my stmt by @CompPolicyInt: AICOA prohibits broad categories of conduct that benefits small biz, just like #DMA

The American Innovation and Choice Online Act (AICOA) threatens to grind America's thriving tech ecosystem and economy to a halt. By mimicking Europe's flawed DMA, this bill will disproportionately burden U.S. small tech leaders and threaten the livelihoods of small developers who rely on integrated platform tools to compete. We sent a coalition letter to Congress urging a complete rejection of European-style regulation that has been showed to be a failure: actonline.org/2026/06/10/coa…

As EU small developers are dealing with the damage from the Digital Markets Act (DMA), two U.S Senators have not learned the lessons. #AICOA is nothing more than a badly timed bill, based on faulty logic, that will burden American businesses and provide no benefit to consumers or competition.
New - @SenAmyKlobuchar and @ChuckGrassley have reintroduced their re-worked American Innovation and Choice Online Act tonight.

The EU's Digital Markets Act is threatening the safety of our mobile ecosystems. A proposed mandate would force Android to give third-party AI agents sweeping access to cross-app data, putting consumer privacy and developer IP at serious risk. Learn more: actonline.org/2026/06/02/ope…

The #DMA is the latest reminder that rules meant for the biggest firms can hit startups. @actonline's EU/UK survey found 6 in 10 tech MSMEs face delayed access to frontier AI tools, and nearly 60% report launch delays. actonline.org/the-hidden-cos…

As thousands of developers gather in Cupertino this week for #WWDC we're keeping an eye on updates in two overarching areas: 1. Easier defaults for parents 2. Extensions of existing controls to more iOS features

ASAA is threatening to turn the thriving mobile ecosystem and its advancing parental controls into a static, government directed anchor. Lawmakers need to put a stop to ASAA and make sure parents and innovators continue leading the way on keeping our kids safe.

America's increasingly complex and ever changing patchwork of state-level privacy policies needs to be addressed. The SECURE Data Act addresses these challenges by creating a uniform national standard and a voluntary compliance framework to help startups protect data and compete. This is a positive development for startups & small tech companies across the country. Innovative small businesses like ACT's members work on the cutting edge and the #H1b visa program helps them compete with the big guys. @morganwreed & Jennifer Ide of a health tech member company talked about the benefits to startups with @AmrithRamkumar of @WSJ back in Feb (tinyurl.com/dcvrdat2)

The space industry is entering a new era, transitioning from specialized applications into core digital infrastructure. 🚀🛰️ To stay out in front of this new space race, the U.S. must modernize its fragmented, outdated regulatory framework. Read our recap from @KedharDC of ACT's recent "Navigating the New Space Regulatory Frontier" event with @ABASciTech & @ASUCollegeOfLaw: actonline.org/2026/05/19/nav…

Imposing a European DMA-style framework in the U.S. would be a mistake for American competition policy. Blanket prohibitions eliminate pro-competitive benefits, spike cyber risks for small devs, and disproportionately impact startups. For innovators and policy wonks alike, case-by-case harm analysis is still the superior approach. Read the full insights from our recent Capitol Hill briefing: actonline.org/2026/05/19/why…
