Rest In Peace John Morphet. A beautiful soul died last week. He was depressed and sick and the place he turned to for help did not treat him as it was an out of network hospital for his insurance. He committed suicide 2 days later. #SinglePayer might have saved him

Did we all just witness a moment of bipartisan agreement on insurance companies? Wow… In this exchange, both AOC and RFK Jr. openly acknowledge something patients and physicians have been saying for years, insurance companies are incentivized to make people appear sicker in order to increase profits through upcoding. Upcoding is when diagnoses are documented as more severe or complex than they actually are in order to increase reimbursement. At the same time, patients are facing: • increasing denials • shrinking reimbursement • delayed care • endless administrative barriers • and a healthcare system that too often feels designed around profit instead of people What struck me most about this moment is not the politics. It’s the fact that leaders from completely different sides of the aisle appear to agree that something is deeply broken. Patients know it. Doctors know it. And now more people in power are saying it out loud. Let’s mark this moment and let’s start demanding accountability.

This illustrates a fine point. We were already providing good care when patients could get to us and afford it. Instead of trying to make the HC system “perform” better, money should’ve gone to improving access by strengthening the primary care workforce through universal financing.
$7.8 billion - stop setting money on fire and just pay primary care more. Your communities will be healthier and happier.

Skimming 18% off a 5T industry and labeling it as cost effective would be laughable if it were not so dangerous for our patients and damaging to our work force.
United Health Group (UHG) recently reported their Q1 2026 results, exceeding earnings expectations with $111.7 billion in revenue—a 2% year-over-year increase. They attribute their positive performance to “improved medical cost management.” Just so we are all clear - medical cost management is code for prior authorization, downcoding, care denials, etc. They take pride in denying care because it looks good on their earnings report.

The victory of the opposition in Hungary yesterday, like the Polish election in 2023, is a victory for democracy, not just in Europe but around the world. Most of all, it’s a testament to the resilience and determination of the Hungarian people – and a reminder to all of us to keep striving for fairness, equality and the rule of law.

Family physicians see every day how policy decisions affect patients, practices and communities. That’s why physician voices in advocacy are more important than ever. New from @aafp president @SCNosalMD in @HopkinsMedicine: ➕ You don’t have to be a policy expert to advocate. ➕Advocacy doesn’t have to be complicated. ➕Early-career voices matter. ➕Physician advocacy shapes policy. As a result of ongoing @aafp advocacy, @HRSAgov awarded funding to 20 family medicine residency programs this month! Expanding these programs will help address physician shortages and improve patients' access to comprehensive care. bit.ly/4bPNTzo

It’s a rewarding calling. Caring for people over the lifespan and being entrusted with their most intimate physical, personal and emotional challenges is not only a privilege, but an incredible learning experience for us. Congratulations and wise choice rising family medicine residents! #FamilyMedicine #PrimaryCare #AAFP

This three hour hearing is worth a listen. I came away with a deeper understanding that there are few enemies, with the exception of venture based capital, unsustainable administrative costs, out sized drug pricing/DME, unfunded and underfunded care and it’s effect on both outpatient practices and critical access hospitals, and the importance of strengthening and expanding the primary care physician lead infrastructure.
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to testify before the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health as part of their hearing: Lowering Health Care Costs for All Americans: An Examination of the U.S. Provider Landscape. I spoke about an issue that affects every patient, family physician in America: the rising cost of health care. Family physicians have seen firsthand how the cost of care impacts patients. Too often, people delay care, skip medications or struggle to follow treatment plans because they simply cannot afford them. No one should have to choose between getting medical care and meeting basic needs like food or housing. During my testimony, I emphasized that strong primary care is one of the most effective ways to improve health outcomes and lower costs. I shared with lawmakers that meaningful progress will require thoughtful policy reforms, including modernizing physician payment, reducing administrative burdens like prior authorization and ensuring patients can access key primary care services without unnecessary cost barriers. Family physicians are committed to caring for patients and communities every day. I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring their voices to Congress and to advocate for policies that strengthen primary care and improve the health of our nation.

The cost of building a new hospital is about $100 million. We're dropping the equivalent of 10 hospitals a day on Iran. Trump decided this war was a better use of taxpayer money than giving Americans health care. It’s not.

If a physician defrauds Medicare they go to jail and are banned from MC for life, but Aetna pays a fine and continues to run Medicare disadvantage. Why the double standard @CMSGov
Yesterday, CVS-Aetna agreed to pay $117.7 million to settle whistleblower claims that they defrauded Medicare by submitting incorrect diagnosis codes to increase their Medicare Advantage payouts. Obvious question: Why are companies with documented histories of defrauding government programs still allowed to participate in them? Read more about the settlement: on.wsj.com/4lmV6LM

We are the secret sauce of helping patients maintain health, avoid preventable illness, and contain costs. A family physician can be located in any community, both urban and rural, and handle 90% of the needs of the community. #Healthcare #PrimaryCare #FamilyMedicine
Policymakers: primary care is an essential tool to address chronic disease. New @TheGrahamCenter research shows: ⬆️ Adults and children are more with a regular source of primary care are more likely to receive key preventive services. ⬇️ For adults with chronic disease, having a usual source of primary care lowers the odds of having any hospitalization by 20% and any emergency department (ED) visit by 11%. ⬇️For children with chronic disease who regularly see a primary care clinician, the benefits are even greater. ED visits and hospitalizations for conditions that can be treated in an outpatient setting are lowered by 50%. buff.ly/imnmX6E

This is profiteering, and it needs to go.

These companies are doing exactly what they are legally able and designed to do. The sharp end of the law is the only way to stop extractive practices in health care and the Federal government is the only entity big enough to get it done.
By big healthcare distributors, you mean McKesson, Cencora( formerly Amerisource Bergen) And Cardinal, @RepKatCammack ? They are #9, 10 and 15 on the Fortune 500. Maybe they should learn. It wasn’t so long ago when most Americans hadn’t heard what a PBM was. Now many know that #3,5,13 on the Fortune 500 BIG INSURERS have their revenues driven by the BIG PBM’s that they own.

Primary care saves lives and lowers costs, new @thegrahamcenter study reaffirms. Patients with a primary care clinician have 54% lower health care spending for chronic disease. The data reinforce what family physicians see every day: continuity of care saves lives, improves outcomes and reduces costs. Health care policy must reflect the real value of primary care. For Renee Nicole Good Killed by I.C.E. on January 7, 2026 by Amanda Gorman They say she is no more, That there her absence roars, Blood-blown like a rose. Iced wheels flinched & froze. Now, bare riot of candles, Dark fury of flowers, Pure howling of hymns. If for us she arose, Somewhere, in the pitched deep of our grief, Crouches our power, The howl where we begin, Straining upon the edge of the crooked crater Of the worst of what we’ve been. Change is only possible, & all the greater, When the labour & bitter anger of our neighbors Is moved by the love  & better angels of our nature. What they call death & void, We know is breath & voice;  In the end, gorgeously,  Endures our enormity.  You could believe departed to be the dawn When the blank night has so long stood. But our bright-fled angels will never be fully gone, When they forever are so fiercely Good.
