Hi đ You may be expecting this to be the launch of the @ad_association's Ad Net Zero channels.
But they didnât grab this handle on Twitter, IG, or TikTok. They also haven't made a plan to end the ad industry's work with fossil fuels.
Luckily, @cleancreatives is here to help.
'Advertising's response to the climate crisis', Ad Net Zero, has yet to comment on @UN@antonioguterres' demand for the Ad & PR industry to stop working with fossil fuel clients, a month ago - so, at @cleancreatives, we're sharing it for them âŹď¸
đ¤ Why has Ad Net Zero yet to mention this call to action, despite its ambitions to help advertising tackle the climate emergency? Maybe itâs because all of Ad Net Zeroâs agency partners work for fossil fuel polluters. đ Want to learn more? Visit instagram.com/adnetzero
Hereâs what happens when you try to launch your âresponse to the climate crisisâ without addressing the role of fossil fuel polluters: itâs very hard to get the coverage you hoped for.
A sample of articles about @adnetzero / #adnetzero's US launch:
The ad industry does need a unified response to the climate emergency.
Right now, Ad Net Zero is not measuring up. We hope they change course. Not only will they get better headlines and the keys to this account, but theyâll be doing more to protect the planet we all live on.
We talked about @BBDOWorldwideâs work for Exxon. Now letâs talk about the rest of @Omnicomâs fossil fuel roster. @Omnicom has made basically no company-wide pledges on sustainability, and their work here shows it.
Itâs a global problem. @Omnicomâs @mktforcenorth specializes in representing Australiaâs biggest polluters - from AGL to APPEA.
In Canada, @DDBCanada is representing the Canadian Energy Centre, the controversial government-funded tar sands lobby.
If @Omnicom is helping lobby against climate action and for more fossil fuel pollution, they are not part of the response to the climate emergency. They are part of the cause of it.
Fossil fuel lobbyists should not be part of any organization with âNet-zeroâ in the name.
One of the biggest sponsors of @Ad_associationâs Ad Net Zero is @WPP.
Theyâre also one of the biggest fossil fuel advertisers on the planet. Their specialty? Greenwashing @BP_PLC.
See our thread about WPP from the F-List 2022: x.com/cleancreatives/status/âŚ
Working with the worldâs biggest polluters is not a pathway to Net-Zero. It doesnât matter if youâre âgetting your own house in orderâ if youâre wrecking everyone elseâs.
As long as sponsor agencies like @WPP work with polluters, #Adnetzero will not be net zero.

Until there's a verified public plan for Ad Net Zero to address fossil fuel polluters, @cleancreatives will be using @adnetzero accounts to share information about the polluters Ad Net Zero member agencies work with - and how that work is at odds with their climate goals.
