(1/4) New study with PhD student @LindaBalcar. Gallup and Pew Research found that most Black Americans want to maintain or increase levels of local police patrol and spending. We tested experimentally if these policy preferences are firm. They are firm.

Across four different potential #crisis scenarios, we find that the public wants the police to #dosomething (as opposed to nothing).
This "something" varied by situation & was not always a formal intervention. This highlights the public's demand for the police to intervene.

But, with limited resources & training (e.g., #CIT), and a public demand to act, this may be placing police and those in crisis in a difficult situation, which furthers the #criminalization of mental health.
