The past 2 years have cratered this: filled up with sycophantic reply guys and crypto bozos now. I'm also starting a new IRL thing next year and need my attention back so... Thanks to all the internet friends I met along the way, hope this place burns to the ground😘
I signed up for Twitter in 2008, used it extensively between 2011-2018, they deleted my account in 2022, but I came back for the past year. Used to love coming on here to stay up on news, Main Character Twitter, jaboukie tweets, sports inside jokes, dril, bike advocacy, etc.

What is happening right now is the end of Capitalism's stranglehold on our political imagination. If you want to win elections against "right-wing, anti-establishment" candidates, parties will have to finally let neoliberalism die and embrace workers.

Absolutely wild that the Minister of Transportation can lie about the mode share numbers like this. Release the numbers on the routes you plan to tear out.
The 1.2 per cent of people who commute by bike shouldn’t be clogging primary roads for the over 70 per cent of people who drive. It’s just common sense.

"Bike Lanes Cause Congestion" Guy goes to investigate the traffic flow at 8:15am but doesn't find any congestion 🙃 Also, you miscounted the number of cyclists 😉
It’s rush hour and there are still very few cyclists in the bike lanes on University Avenue. x.com/i/broadcasts/1nAKEpBky…

they have them like every year. it's those city council and county board elections that you never vote in. the ones that affect housing, schools and policing in your community. libraries, potholes and local businesses. you know. all that unimportant stuff that doesn't affect you

Ah there it is
I look forward to seeing what specific changes the mayor has in mind for the Bloor Street bike lanes in #Etobicoke. My position from the beginning has been that the city should: 1. Consult properly with our community on existing and proposed bike lanes. 2. Move the Bloor bike lanes to more suitable streets. 3. Stop plans to extend the Bloor bike lanes further west into Etobicoke Centre. 4. Future plans should support the key objectives of sound transportation planning and be based in evidence. Let me be very clear: I am not ideological about bike lanes. Bike lanes make sense in some places and don't make sense in others. The objectives of sound transportation planning should include: getting as many people to where they need to go by all forms of transportation as quickly, safely, and cost effectively as possible, while minimizing the impact on the environment and supporting our local economy. Plans should be based on evidence. Unfortunately, when deciding to replace 2 car lanes with bike lanes on Bloor, the city was clearly pursuing different objectives than those above. In my view the city should not have replaced two car lanes with the Bloor bike lanes in Etobicoke as they don't achieve the key objectives of transportation planning & have caused great harm in Etobicoke. 5. They have had a predictably devastating impact on traffic flow with limited benefit. 6. They risk our safety in emergencies. 7. They have increased emissions and harmed the environment. 8. Local small businesses have suffered. Click on this link to read further on my position: mailchi.mp/06bb2db333ea/bloo…

It doesn't solve *everything* but finding community has been huge for me the past 4 years.

It feels good to be around people who understand you, and not feel defensive about talking through your concerns or fears. I've found that most people who bike to get around are very open and care about others. And, also (let's be honest) bike gear 🙃

I guess the point it, if you're reading this and feeling lonely or mad about how things are: reach out to some bike folks in your area and ask about irl events. And go! You can thank me later 😇

Tbh this isn't purely a 18-30 yo problem, this is happening to us all. There's an epidemic of loneliness and frustration with our world - and I don't think the machines in our pockets beaming bad news and controversy for ad revenue into our eyeballs 24/7 is helping.

Finding community is the best thing you can do in your life - to feel less alone and to feel like there's a future for all of us. You can certainly find them online, but I implore you to meet irl. Life is so short, spend as much of it with others as you can.

Doomerism is starting to creep into a lot of vocabularies recently - Especially if you're under 30 with precarious work, high rent, no savings, plugged into social media, dating online, etc. "What's the point?" "Nothing's gonna change" 🧵
