To clarify - by “whatever we want” I meant the appropriate amount that we are legally (and ethically) allowed to charge. But it doesn’t matter how much OR how little we bill; DRG based reimbursement only pays the set fee. Insurance wouldn’t pay us more $$ even if we charged more.
Unless you serve primarily Medicare/Medicaid patients and your hospital loses money on every single admission. We charge whatever we want, doesn’t mean we’ll actually get anything. Our safety net hospital is fighting to keep its doors open because others take advantage.

Note: these are my opinions & I am NOT speaking on behalf of my organization I didn’t disagree with you, I just don’t think it applies across the board . A safety net hospital is not out for profit; we care for all regardless of ability to pay. Zero reimbursement is also a factor
For any hospital that says they lose money on Medicare/caid patients, I would LOVE to see the bill of materials and direct overhead attributed to the procedures you lose money on How much you pay for that hip implant, the anesthesia, disposables, the doctors/nurses etc, for the period of time they are working on that hip replacement. The same for any operations or procedures It's crazy that I can't find that information ANYWHERE Please show me how you lose money on Direct Costs at Medicare or Medicaid rates , then we can discuss the value of all the consultants , paintings , beautiful buildings , etc contribute to your inability to make money on the Medies I even bought and went through hospital cost accounting text books and found no real numbers 😂

Want another reason why healthcare costs are insane ? Hospitals will not only charge a facility fee and other random costs BUT ALSO , if they believe the insurance company is willing to pay MORE THAN WHAT WAS ON THE PATIENT BILL, THEY WILL INCREASE THE BILL to the insurance company. Of course the insurance company then charges the self insured employer the higher amount. Our healthcare has become a game of who can rip off who and get away with it. Too Big To Care - all of it. Break em up !

“‘Vaccines don’t cause autism’ has never been proven.” Correct, because that’s not how science works. If I say “sunning your perineum twice per day increases your IQ by 10 points” you would say, “prove it.” The burden of proof is on me, the person with a tanned perineum. If I responded by saying, “no, you prove to me perineal sunning DOESN’T increase your IQ by 10 points,” I am operating under the false assumption that my perineal sunning claim is fact without evidence to back it up. The burden of proof is on the person claiming that vaccines cause autism, not the other way around.
RFK Jr. just broke down to a college student that the claim “vaccines don’t cause autism” has never been proven. “The people who told you that have been lying to you.“ “In fact, only one vaccine has ever been studied, the MMR vaccine.” “The 20 doses of the seven vaccines that are given during the first year of life — the DTP, the Hib, the hepatitis B, the pneumococcal vaccines and the polio vaccines — have never been studied.” “Congress passed the 1986 Vaccine Act and said, you’ve got to study the DTP vaccine
That study has never been done.” “The only studies that were done were MMR studies, and they were all epidemiological studies
you can’t prove causation with an epidemiological study.” “In 2017, the Institute of Medicine looked at all of the MMR studies and they threw out all but four of them
and the four that were left were all epidemiological studies.” “None of them did what you would want to do if you actually wanted the answer, which is to compare health outcomes in a vaccinated group against health outcomes in an unvaccinated group.” “That’s what we need to do and those studies we’re doing now.”

I’m running for reelection to continue serving as Governor of Minnesota. We’ve made historic progress in our state, but we’re not done yet. I’m staying in the fight — and I need you with me.

This is Melissa Hortman, on June 14, 2025 she & her husband John were murdered in a politically motived attack. She stood for environment rights, abortion rights & sensible gun control policies. No lowered flags! Can we take a moment to remember her good works. Please RT.

First, recommendations during the pandemic evolved in response to emerging data. Why would we know exactly what to do on day 1? Why wouldn’t we update recommendations as we learn more? Second, vaccines were developed & initially rolled out during Trump’s term. Quiet down Zuck.

$META Zucks just went on Joe Rogan and absolutely demolished the Biden Administration for 3 hours. Goodness
I have never seen him this comfortable in speaking his mind about the government. Essentially he claims that the Biden admin heavily pressure $META on censoring any pushback people had to vaccines, even if conveyed via memes/satire. When they refused, government agencies began investigating them deeper to intimidate him. Looks like the Free Speech pivot on community notes & Dana White appointment to the board of directors is in line with Zucks setting up $META not only for the next 4 years of Trump but also for a new era of not working with the government to mass censor. We know the Trump administration wants all ideas to have an open platform & has heavily resisted Big Tech censoring speech so it seems like, on paper, $META and Trump will get along. The types of things Zucks is disclosing publicly today on the pod are unbelievable

Genuinely shocked by the awful snow management in Hennepin County this AM. I didn’t see a single plow on my way in to work at ~6:15am. Seemed like 394 was plowed once a few hours ago or not at all. Also every road, local or highway, was wickedly/deceivingly icy. Drive safe!
19 Dec 2024
Based on how busy the roads were between 3am-6am, I’m predicting a hell’ish commute. Breaks my money making heart. I’ve handed off more orders to other drivers than I would have liked to, to make sure the schedule isn’t too tight.

The reason meds cost more in the hospital is bc there’s literally no other way to fund pharmacists who are literally saving lives behind the scenes. We’re expensive bc of our extensive clinical knowledge but we can’t bill for any of our time. PS we never see a fraction of that $$
Replying to @MattCover
Hospitals need to also be a hell of a lot more honest about billing. I was billed $40 a day for medication that doesn’t cost me $40 a month. And yeah, doctors shouldn’t be making $30k/hour. But also, I don’t think anyone should be making that much an hour. The market can’t reasonably afford that.

I could go on & on about how much work hospital pharmacists do that literally no one knows about. It’s fine, we know what we signed up for, we don’t need credit. But sometimes it also sucks to constantly have to defend your profession because people don’t know you exist.
