Today is the day the UK becomes the first G7 country to completely phase out coal power Since opening "Jumbo", the world's first coal power plant in 1882, the UK's coal plants have burned through a whopping 4.6bn tonnes of coal, emitting 10.4GtCO2 – which is more than most countries have ever released Here's the story of how that all came to an end: interactive.carbonbrief.org/…

The climate and nature crisis is the most profound and universal source of global disorder. We are resetting Britain’s approach to this agenda. Climate and nature will be central to all the Foreign Office does. My speech at @KewGardens today: gov.uk/government/speeches/f…

There are days in politics that you are particularly proud of. Today is one of those, because we are debating the Great British Energy Bill in Parliament. This Government won a mandate for the first publicly-owned national energy company in 75 years. It will be owned by you

It was nice to reflect on my 27 years in Parliament advocating for clean energy. I am not standing this time, but I am proud and excited by Labour’s energy and climate change offer. Energy independence, green prosperity, climate leadership. That’s the change Labour will bring.
Shortly before the election was called, I interviewed @alanwhiteheadmp, the shadow minister for energy security. We discussed Labour’s energy plans, the north sea transition & how climate policy has changed since he was elected in 1997 - @NewStatesman newstatesman.com/spotlight/s…

If Starmer is elected on today’s manifesto, he’ll have a mandate for a quietly bold agenda on climate: double onshore wind, double insulation investment, triple solar, quadruple offshore wind. Stop new oil & gas licenses. End new petrol, diesel vehicle sales by 2030.

We welcome today’s news on Wylfa – but the fact that we are being asked to celebrate this tentative step forward on a nuclear project identified 14 years ago by Labour tells you everything you need to know about this tired and complacent government. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clkk…

It has been five years since the previous plans for Wylfa fell through while ministers watched on. We cannot allow any repeat of that record. After 14 years of failure, the people of North Wales deserve a government they can rely on to deliver.

Climate is on the ballot in the London mayoral election today. A vote for anyone other than Sadiq Khan risks letting Susan Hall and the anti-net zero zealots in by the back door. Vote Sadiq for climate leadership today 🌹

It is shocking that thousands of families had their homes intruded in the PPM scandal. The government promised compensation but has completely failed to deliver. I have written to @ClaireCoutinho demanding urgent justice for those affected. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/t…

Britain was built on the bedrock of industrial jobs offering security and a good wage. My government's Green Prosperity Plan will back the pride and ambition in our industrial heartlands. With good jobs, higher wages and energy security - Labour will get Britain's future back.

The UK has the potential to be a world leader in floating offshore wind. With Labour, we will be. Publicly owned GB Energy will invest to create good jobs, lower bills, and provide energy security.

The Conservatives think that only foreign state-owned companies should own British energy resources, but not the British people. Labour says it is time to invest in homegrown power so we cut bills and put profits back into our communities. 🇬🇧

Let’s have some honesty on this government’s woeful record. Independent research from @ECIU_UK found that two-thirds of measures installed since 2010 came from Labour programmes which this government scrapped - leading to 90% reductions in insulation rates.
In 2010, just 14% of homes in England were well insulated. Under the Conservatives, it's now almost 50%. Today's announcement will keep social tenants' homes warm and their bills down by up to £400 - and it's on top of our £1 billion Great British Insulation Scheme.

Instead of taking credit for every time someone has put in double glazing or replaced their lightbulbs in the last 14 years, why not focus on turning around the latest failing effort? The Great British Insulation Scheme only reached 3200 homes from a target of 100,000 last year.

The fact that the Energy Minister is tweeting against his own Chancellor’s energy taxation policy shows that this is a collapsing Conservative Government. @AndrewBowie_MP I assume you are resigning given your disagreement with a key part of the Budget?

I was delighted to speak at the Community Energy APPG this week. Great British Energy - Labour’s publicly owned energy champion - will partner with communities to invest in clean, cheap renewables, cut bills and create one million owners of local power projects by 2030.
