Today is the day the UK becomes the first G7 country to completely phase out coal power
Since opening "Jumbo", the world's first coal power plant in 1882, the UK's coal plants have burned through a whopping 4.6bn tonnes of coal, emitting 10.4GtCO2 – which is more than most countries have ever released

If Starmer is elected on today’s manifesto, he’ll have a mandate for a quietly bold agenda on climate: double onshore wind, double insulation investment, triple solar, quadruple offshore wind. Stop new oil & gas licenses. End new petrol, diesel vehicle sales by 2030.

Let’s have some honesty on this government’s woeful record.
Independent research from @ECIU_UK found that two-thirds of measures installed since 2010 came from Labour programmes which this government scrapped - leading to 90% reductions in insulation rates.

In 2010, just 14% of homes in England were well insulated.
Under the Conservatives, it's now almost 50%.
Today's announcement will keep social tenants' homes warm and their bills down by up to £400 - and it's on top of our £1 billion Great British Insulation Scheme.

Instead of taking credit for every time someone has put in double glazing or replaced their lightbulbs in the last 14 years, why not focus on turning around the latest failing effort?
The Great British Insulation Scheme only reached 3200 homes from a target of 100,000 last year.
