For the past half a year I've been working on this project to expand on my interests around the British Empire Exhibition. Please share with anyone who you think may want to be involved with our conference in September!
2024 marks the centenary of the opening of the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley. This week, @LSofARCH, in partnership with the @BritishCouncil, launched a Call to Participation for a conference in September, to critically reflect upon the exhibition's legacy.

will never forget being condescendingly told by people in and around the labour party that not voting for them in the next election would make me responsible for the deaths of thousands

these people currently at the top of the party have absolutely zero shame or conviction, they are alienating huge numbers of their natural voters. given that this man would be my local MP, he's just made my decision all the more simple

Indonesia is building a new capital, a large-scale $35 billion urban project located in East Kalimantan. What are the rationales behind the new capital and how is it being pursued as a political project? These are addressed in this working paper 👇 eprints.lse.ac.uk/119201/1/S…

on a recent trip the airport security guy said to me "why can't all passengers be like you?" and I'm still living off that high months later

disclosure – this was made by people I was lucky to work with at @RCAarchitecture, but it's a really great little video essay that really gets what's going on, ideologically, with the Olympic opening ceremony youtube.com/watch?v=m_9Yqpim…

exactly this!! plugging this video essay (again) that I worked on with some friends last year that explores the ceremony itself and the discourse around it youtu.be/m_9YqpimGlk
it's weird the olympics and specifically the opening ceremony are deemed the last point of british liberal hegemony bc my understanding is that boyle made the NHS central to it to reinforce its centrality and act as a cultural bulwark against its ongoing and rapid decimation

how do I reconcile my half-British half-Indonesian identity with this kind of madness
15 Mar 2022
Absolutely dead at how this is how some countries showed up for the costume round of a male beauty pageant..... and this is how the UK did it
recently scouring through some Indonesian YouTube cooking videos and they also refer to Kecap Inggris, or 'English sauce', it's a whole thing!!

aside from the actual issue here, @HackneyAbbott's use of the most egregious photos of the people she's tweeting about is now my favourite tweet format. look at those pixels on all their glory, this is queen shit 👏
Just watching an embarrassing defence by Michael Fabricant MP of the latest Downing St. party to be revealed. Boris must be desperate
imagine thinking 2012 was an idyllic British moment. just a year after the London Riots, two years after student protests for the trebling of tuition fees, and the beginnings of austerity. check out this video essay I worked on which unpacks some of this youtu.be/m_9YqpimGlk

how can you seriously say that "we are not a 'papers please' society" literally a week after we have passed a bill that could arbitrarily strip me of my citizenship without notice because I was born abroad? kmt are these people actually this dumb?
Conservative MP Marcus Fysh who is opposing vaccine passports this morning on BBC "we are not a 'papers please' society" "This is not Nazi Germany," he says "It's the thin end of an authoritarian wedge"

a huge thank you to the team to allow me the space to learn more about Indonesia's lost radical history. it's the first time I've been able to explore the Indonesian half of my heritage in my work, which is both a bit odd that it's taken so long but also an exciting first step
