You can have whatever opinion you like about the candidates, but the ME primary has shown how powerful ranked choice is.
We have multiple great (to me) progressive candidates in both CD 2 and the Gov races, and we get to see their broad coalitions combine in the later rounds!

They thought she was a voice of reason that acted as a moderating force, but now they see her as a liar that has enabled Trump and the reactionary right every step of the way while putting on an act of being a moderate. After Dobbs her credibility is shot.

Is it so hard to comprehend why nobody wanted to run for Senate? They tear your life apart for a grueling race all for a thankless job in the most dysfunctional governing body in the world. And you'd have to leave Maine. A guy like Troy doesn't even make sense outside of Maine

1) Dems were snakebit by the 2020 loss and potential candidates went for Gov/ME02 instead
2) Those who were tempted by Senate race were aware that Schumer was pitching Mills, and assumed she would crush them if she ran
3) Platner announced (while Mills was dithering) with a successful media push, benefiting from the Bernie/Fight Agency effort to find fresh “populist” candidates with good stories and charisma.

The thing that got him in this position wasn’t upper middle class leftists, it was the overwhelming majority of Maine Democrats who preferred him over their incumbent governor. That’s the fulcrum of power you need to focus on if you want to understand this.

The biggest problem is that as polarizing as Platner is, and as much as his history is a distraction for his campaign, his primary opponents are sauceless.
