During a visit to Moscow, Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh invited Russia's rare earth organisation Giredmet Institute to explore setting up a refining hub based on mineral resources in Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam. He also pitched a Neodymium Magnet manufacturing facility in Nellore to support India's growing EV and wind energy sectors. The message from Andhra is clear: move up the value chain - from mining resources to refining them, processing them and building the technologies of the future.

Did you know that while China has over 5,000 large ships in its commercial fleet, India has less than 500? International trade is totally dominated by Chinese vessels. In fact, 98% of the world's commercial fleet is run by companies that are either Chinese, or use Chinese-manufactured ships. India is surrounded by sea on three sides and has a glorious history as a maritime nation. Let's revive our shipping industry. There should be no difference between public and private sector. All are one in this goal. To use a phrase from shipping, our strategic interests need all hands on deck.
