"Congress is D.C.'s legislative body," says @SenRickScott. "This means we have a constitutional responsibility to fight for those living here just like any legislature should fight for people living in their state."

With news of McDuffie resigning, a reminder that appointments for pre-special election positions matter. 1) Critical decisions will be made and 2) Major advantage in special. For ex: Bonds was selected by Ds to replace Mendo, then won the special election. That was 13 years ago.

It's cool that the DC Council recognized that the pandemic-era effort to save restaurants-- streateries-- should continue post-pandemic. Remember when we had an eviction moratorium during the pandemic and it saved lives? Do that next.

We are grateful to have played even a small part in fighting against the militarization of D.C. and for the right to control our own public safety response. Thank you to @ACLU_DC and @WashLaw4CR for your leadership and work on the amicus!

Events DC unlawfully hides millions in its slush fund while low-income DC residents lose healthcare and housing benefits due to budget cuts. Just... amazing.
#News - DC Auditor Kathy Patterson finds EVENTS DC agency has failed to transfer $68.7 million from its excess accounts to DC's General Fund as required by law. @wcp mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#in…

Let's be real: needing to say that we oppose "involuntary lethal injection" for being homeless was not on our 2025 bingo card. But here we are.

📣 Take action to protect home rule AND homeless DC residents! #housingnothandcuffs
Friends outside of DC, we need your help. We have no vote in Congress, yet some people in Congress want to write our laws AND they want DC to lock people up for being homeless. Tell Congress NO. votervoice.net/NHLC/campaign…

More than 100 progressive groups, churches, and unions are calling on @MayorBowser to push back on Trump's federal surge in D.C. "History is calling upon you to lead... not to cower in the face of an authoritarian who does not have our best interests in mind," they write.

I can't believe this has to be said but apparently it does. NOTHING about this is normal or helpful or anything but an intentional flex of power to oppress DC residents.
Replying to @MayorBowser
@MayorBowser does not speak for us or for D.C. residents without homes. We do not in any way, shape, or form "greatly appreciate" having D.C. streets taken over by untrained, aggressive law enforcement who do not respect the legal rights or basic humanity of D.C. residents.

We're building a strong rapid response to counter the abuse of power by the Trump Administration. We're hiring a Civil Rights Attorney to ensure that homeless people can live their lives w/out being harassed by police or having their belongings destroyed. legalclinic.org/jobs-and-int…

If the increased federal law enforcement presence in D.C. was about crime or getting unhoused people to accept services, they wouldn't be harassing people going into a service center to get help with housing and employment. Again, homelessness is not a crime.

Here is my account of all the ways DC came together yesterday to protect and stand up for unhoused neighbors. Today the Trump administration retaliated, coming with no notice and no offers of help to destroy the property and homes of U.S. citizens. legalclinic.org/d-c-stands-s…

This is happening tonight, DC. Now is the time to open your homes, your churches, to pay for a hotel room. People will be arrested. Not because they are doing anything wrong. Because they don't have a home. People in and out of DC, raise your voice. legalclinic.org/press-releas…

Cleaning the path of a leader of undesirables is TEXTBOOK dictator behavior!!
Trump directed every homeless encampment to be cleared that he might see on the way to Kennedy Center. *NO NOTICE* to residents. This isn't about helping people who are homeless. This isn't about crime. This is about not wanting to LOOK at poor people. streetsensemedia.org/article…

Breaking: Again today we heard the Trump Administration threaten to arrest homeless DC residents for being homeless. Homelessness is not a crime. It is particularly cruel to threaten to jail people while trying to cut housing programs that could *actually* end homelessness.
