Say what you want about Canva, but they mean business. They really do mean business. And you can see it's a product that is solving what people need. I am all for Canva

Ili niendelee kujiona BADO SANA, huwa naingia gym nimevaa t-shirt kubwa. T-shirt inaficha my already impressive 'rock formation'. Nikijiangalia kwenye kioo cha gym sioni maendeleo yoyote. Hivyo naongeza hasira ya mazoezi. Uraiani nikivaa t-shirt ya kawaida, unaona kabisa jiografia ipo. Milima (chest), bonde la ufa (mgongo), mistari ya contours (six pack) n.k. Alternatively, I train with pros who've been lifting for a decade or so. Hiyo inasaidia kunibakisha kwenye beginner mindset. Yaani "not there yet". The day you start calling yourself guru or expert is the day you stop being any of those things. Stay hungry!

Photoshop wasn’t efficient enough at “product” design so Sketch came and took that market share. Sketch wasn’t available to everyone and lacked the Silicon Valley connections so Figma came along. With Figma’s collaboration, in-browser tool and its well connected bright smart founder—it was perfect for Silicon Valley. XD and Studio were just too late to the game as everyone was transition tired and it was clear InVision was on its way out with lack of innovation and XD was still just an Adobe product that should have existed years prior but they move like dinosaurs. So Figma had zero competition besides late leavers of Photoshop. There’s been a sleeper company come along like Canva, they took the everyday graphic designer route away from Adobe, however, many pro designers now also use Canva for social media things with clients as it’s easier for anyone to manage—not just the pros. And there lies one of the many issues with Figma. It’s become too featured where not anyone can just take your file and figure it out. In Photoshop, the layers were even hard for people. So imagine how someone feels on Figma. This allowed Canva to take that market share and soon, I think someone will be able to create a simplified design tool for product designers and web designers that focuses on the designer and will take even more market share away from Figma. So a once easy to use tool is becoming bloated like Photoshop did and losing focus on its main user, the designer, and moving focus to developers which is confusing it’s number 1 user. This on top of some horrific pricing schemes just like Adobe did, the pattern is becoming clear. Competition is needed to refocus them and kick them in gear. I’m rooting for anyone here, even Figma. They all allow us to make money and we should all be grateful they exist. I just noticed a trend happening with Figma and want to bring it up for anyone out there considering working on a product for designers—because now is the time. I’d even argue that if someone like Webflow thought more like a designers process, they could take a majority of web design market share away. Good luck to everyone! Especially Figma because I do not want to switch tools again. But it is about to be exciting times again like the previous battle of the tools.

The main role that a UX designer plays is to make sure that product users don’t spend much time trying to figure out how to use the product. The main target is to make sure we create self-evident products. If that becomes a challenge, we make the products self-explanatory

Struggling to start a business? make 2025 a year of doing. 10 ideas that require less capital, not heavily regulated, and have potential for scale. 1. Professional services - Use what you have learned in school - You can upgrade with additional certifications - Accounting? legal? engineering? psychology? IT? Agri? etc, all these and others can form a proper business. - Tanzania has more than 4m SMEs, they all need some sort of professional services 2. Moving - People move everyday, 75% of urban dwellers in TZ live in rented homes. They will always be moving houses or cities. - Get wrapping boxes, wrapping films, partner with a transporter, get 5 movers working with on contractual basis (when u get a deal). 3. Real estate agent/broker? - Professionalize “udalali” - Get 3 freelancers, put them on uniforms, and some training - Get a killer website - Be different 4. Food marketing and delivery - Can you link farmers with markets? at least starting with domestic market - More than 75% of food in TZ is grown in southern highlands, they need to be marketed all across the country - 35% to 40% of TZs now live in cities, they need food delivery 5. Content creation & moderation - All advertisers are heavily moving to digital - Can you create content? if not, can you moderate? - Can you build a team of freelance content creators who will do the work? - More than 6% of TZs use social media, how can you help brands access this market? 6. Mobile car fixer - Can people call you when they cars have a breakdown on the road? - You dont need to be a mechanic, but can have mechanics working with you. - car runs out of fuel? tyre puncture? dead battery? engine malfunction? Let people call you. 7. Dropshipping - Get an online store, let customers order through you - Get orders to manufacturers - Let manufactures send directly to your customers 8. Data collection firm - Companies and NGOs conduct research all the time - Easier to get a researcher, but tough to get data collectors (foot soldiers) - Can you build freelance data collectors pool? and send your guys whenever there is a gig? - Let researchers call you whenever they need data to be collected - Invest a bit in digital tools 9. Pre move-in inspector - Inspect homes before new tenant moves in - give the report to the landlord and tenant - Charge per inspection 10. Authorized agent - Choose a good brand - ask them to be their sales and distribution agent without holding stocks - Look for markets, connect the sale, get your cut. Finally, The million youths entering the labour market every year cant all get jobs, in fact less than 20% will get jobs. - Dont be a “CV merchant”, sending CV for two years and keeping on sending. - Organize yourself with friends, and come out of the box. - Find a way to use your knowledge to give you an occupation. “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results”- Qoute
