y'all are right that the general mood of this piece is wrong - very Harrison Bergeron on a moral level, supported by a warped-to-dishonest presentation of the actual facts.
But "gifted" programs are mostly garbage, and defending them just to get one over on the haters isn't worth it.
"Multiple measures" gifted identification *does* make the whole endeavor capricious and non-academic, but it's been on the rise for 20 years.
If that's what "giftedness" truly is, then sure let's scrap it.

I finally paid a late medical bill a few days ago but it took them so long to apply it to the actual account that I then received further communications from the billing department offering a $600 discount that I am now too late to receive 🤨

like your body tries to heal it but the tendon never comes back together, just the ends heal up from the tear, so you never regain ability to walk despite being otherwise healthy with no visible wound and presumably normal lifespan...

Almost done with impossibly long day of solo parenting only to discover my son leaned over the side of his bed to drain his bleeding nose last night
The pool of blood was dark and dried onto the floor, I had to pick up the larger flakes and then rehydrate the rest to wipe it off , metallic odor was unmistakeable

I thought this school year couldn’t possibly serve us another catastrophe on top of the firetrap rental, 3 unplanned changes of school, etc
alas with 5 days to go my husband just has sustained a complete patellar tendon rupture in a freak accident

I’ve known for years that the human kneecap is poorly designed, finally got to experience it myself—my kneecaps don’t line up any more! I don’t think I strictly need an intact patellar tendon to write a newsletter, but still anxious to get it fixed up.
