Excellent piece by @NohaAboelataMD on the importance of continued masking in healthcare
Thank you @mercnews for publishing my op-ed! "Opinion: California health care providers’ retreat from COVID masking is shameful In what universe is it ethically appropriate for physicians and hospitals to infect their own patients with COVID?" 🧵 1/8 mercurynews.com/2023/05/05/o…

I wrote this to process the trauma of responding to a shooting on the doorstep of my clinic @RootsEmpowers. We need @AlamedaCounty to commit way more resources to this public health crisis: sfchronicle.com/opinion/open…

I was a regional VP in CIR-SEIU while also a @UCSFIMChiefs chief resident. Union can win things that program leadership also want but lack power to achieve. Greater power for shared goals - improved resident working conditions and learning experience. Vote YES @MGBUnited!

For the last three years, report after report has documented rampant dysfunction, corruption, inequality, racism, exploitation, profiteering, and deadly systems-wide failures in US healthcare. Despite this, policymakers and healthcare administrators 1/ nytimes.com/2023/02/05/opini…

A genre of essays about the Fall of San Francisco focus on progressive symbolism and rhetoric as what's to blame for the tarp-and-tents favela that occupies so much public space. The genre is like a silly political mirror: so, if we changed back to "normal" rhetoric we'd be OK?/1

Crime and violence is inevitable in a highly unequal society that permits mass poverty and decay. If more cops or more people in prison solved anything America would have the lowest crime rate on earth. The only way to solve the problem is to actually make people's lives better.

About that awful piece in @TheAtlantic. It suggests that @chesaboudin created the Tenderloin (she's gotta be joking; we all know what it was like before), it makes SF an object of nostalgia (hasn't she ever read joan didion on haight ashbury?), it describes Asian Americans as

The barrier to entry for hot takes about CA election results is acknowledging the following: $6.5M spent to recall DA Boudin - at $98/vote, the most expense per vote spend in history. $34M of Caruso’s own money spent to launch his campaign for LA Mayor - 11x his lead opponent.

Incredibly disingenuous to spin these votes as “tough on crime” rather than “billionaires corrupting democracy.” Caruso a billionaire who outspent Bass 10:1. Boudin recall funded by GOP billionaires who outspent opposition 2:1. Give me a break. nytimes.com/2022/06/08/us/po…
Alternative solution: reduce demand. All these Dem voters (myself included) competing for housing in solidly blue cities in solidly blue states could move to less expensive cities in red states and start tipping the electoral scales
Just viewed a rental in Bed-Stuy. There were 15 people in line for the showing. The broker noted that he had already received multiple offers above listing price (for a rental!). There is one and only one solution to many tenants competing for a few apartments: more apartments.

To clarify, (1) I’m strongly supportive of building more housing; (2) I’m not saying everyone needs to leave SF, NY, etc. I do think that the left would benefit from people who *can* and *are willing to* move to red states doing so, both to help address supply/demand housing

mismatch in these cities and help flip red states. If folks disagree, would love to hear other ideas for how to overcome the structural disadvantage we face in upcoming senate and presidential elections despite representing well over a majority of the country.
How many Democratic voters would have to move to North Dakota, South Dakota, and Iowa to win the senate races there this fall? I’m guessing <500k…
