Hard to believe it's been four days since we got the news of my brother's death and learned that his dear wife had died on Christmas Eve. Life is forever changed for us. The shock turned to sadness, then numbness and now a tiredness that goes deep. Watching an episode of The Repair Shop on Prime TV earlier a gentleman commented that we should never lose our zest for life. That's my problem at the moment. I know my zest for life will return but for the time being my energy is very low. It's not despair or depression. Just an incredible feeling of loss that I have not felt with the death of any other family member over the years. He didn't just die at home. He took his life. And it breaks my heart that he was so lost and alone without Susan, overcome with nightmares from decades ago that came back to haunt him. He was a New Mexico State Trooper in 1980 during the Santa Fe prison riot. The only person he ever spoke to about it was my husband, the cop. It was bad. Very bad. PTSD is a terrible thing. It takes a toll and just when you think you've got it licked it gut punches you. Again. Please pray for our law enforcement and military members. Life deals blows that some never recover from and good people like my brother, Wade, suffer every day.
