It’s interesting that Jaylen Brown had less estimated wins than Dyson or NAW. He played a handful fewer games, but still not what you’d expect given the MVP shouts. My read is there’s a price where the Hawks would take him, but they won’t pay a lot (i.e., they won’t give #8).

Starting to move towards DP over Boozer at 1 late in the game. The whole weirdness with the injury muddies the waters a bit but this is a staggering, rarely seen scoring bag and will be exceptionally difficult to contain in a playoff setting.

Building on this, I think it’s a point in favor of Brayden Burries, who weighed at 215 lbs. Jack of all trades, master of none guards have burned me before but the physical baseline you get with him is appealing in the playoffs. Especially for a team like ATL trying to win now.
Players listed at 180lbs or less in these playoffs

Like Veesaar as a target at 23. Hawks pretty clearly value shooting 5s highly. They tried a shooting big rotation of KP and Okongwu, it didn’t work out, then acquired another shooting 5 in Jock. Having that shooter helps with their 4 ball handler attack and the Dyson/JJ spacing.

My main takeaway from Kingston’s underwhelming measurements is it solidifies him as a one position defender. I’m still confident projecting him as a on D. His top goal will be adding mass over his rookie deal. The anthro concerns could work in ATL’s favor by sliding him to 8.

Looking at the trove of picks the Griz possess, it puts into perspective how important it is to sell early. The Hawks by contrast waited too long to sell their key guys and didn’t get value. Once consensus forms that you should move a player it’s usually too late.

If that back checks out, I’m likely driving the Mikel Brown Jr bus.

Hi friends, hope you’ve been well. When trying to dive deep into the WNBA, I found a void where I wanted advanced analytics tools to be. I built a site that tries to communicate the previously-unquantified impact in WNBA basketball. This is Help the Helper helpthehelper.vercel.app

The first 2 playoff games have predictably exposed some holes in ATL’s half court offense, particularly stemming from Jalen who is still mainly a transition guy. This is pretty clearly their biggest team building need. They shouldn’t force it but this draft has options for that.

Wrote about how the Hawks' versatile guard trio of CJ McCollum, Dyson Daniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker fit so well together and helped propel Atlanta into a top-six seed: jacksonjfrank.substack.com/p…

Wagler brings back Hali memories from the ‘20 cycle. Both highly productive, lanky 3* guards w/ real quirks. Outlier bad FT rate and funky shot form w/ Hali. No dunks and bad STL% w/ Wagler. Both have advanced cadence and poise. Possible the stat flaws speak more to uniqueness.

I don’t know if I would pick up Kuminga’s $24 million TO this offseason. There’s also an option to use it for a trade. Definitely had some highs in his short Hawks tenure but there’s a lot of bad process. They might be better off playing Asa and saving the dough.

Boozer is my top overall prospect but I really love Darryn’s fit in Atlanta. Adding an easy half court scorer to the Dyson/Jalen core in a Snyder offense is very appealing. I think it’s an ideal landing spot for him too.

This might be a hedge on lotto outcomes. If you land a top 4 pick, you’re potentially in position for an elite F prospect, and probably less incentive to make a long term gamble on JK. But if you don’t, you could take a moderate risk on him and hope either him or Zac work out.
There mutual interest between the Hawks and Jonathan Kuminga on declining his 2026-27 team option valued at $24.3 million and agreeing to a long-term contract, per @JakeLFischer

I think small guard skepticism is clearly warranted but possibly becoming too consensus. Trae and Ja are cautionary tales, but there’s also Mitchell and Brunson who continue to power top teams. The market might let one of these slip thru by being too cautious IMO.

Think a key component of this is Dyson’s size and defense allows them to play a three guard lineup, unlocking a little more ball handling and creation.
With the talk about Charlotte's starters, I haven't seen as much on Atlanta's starters. They are currently the best lineup in the league, outscoring opponents by ~30 pts/100 poss. Last night, it was 22 on 43 poss. - Every starter is better on both sides when with the starters.

Dejounte coming back to revive a dead Pelicans team and subsequently make that Pels pick worse for the Hawks is pretty tilting.

Hi friends. No easy way to say this: my girlfriend has lymphoma, a cancer that may kill her. It’s a recurrence of the cancer she battled in 2024. I’ve started a gofundme to help cover her extensive medical bills, likely to last a few years. I’ll put the link and more info below
