In today's world of military conflict, there has been a dramatic increase in the role of drones in enhancing national security. ideaForge is leading India's UAV revolution by taking a project developed by IIT Bombay students from its concept phase through to becoming an internationally recognised innovator in defence solutions.
Founded and incubated at IIT Bombay, ideaForge redesigned the concept of defence to be solely dependent on domestically manufactured equipment and components, while also providing support to the defence industry, doing so without any foreign investment or relationships other than through self-motivation and self-reliance.
As a true example of Atmanirbhar Bharat, ideaForge's success is exemplified by its recognition as "Made in India". As reflected in ideaForge's record of meeting this standard, by not sourcing critical sub-components from bordering nations and by being substantially indigenous, the company showcases its commitment to "Make in India" and its long-term viability and growth in the defence sector.
ideaForge has an extensive range of products for various defence purposes. Among these products are the NETRA series, which is used for both surveillance and search-and-rescue operations; the SWITCH UAV, which is used for military ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) operations; and the RYNO series for tactical nano and micro missions.
All these products incorporate AI-based analytics. In 2025, the Indian Army placed a capital procurement order worth approximately ₹100 crore for the next-generation ZOLT tactical drone and the respective SWITCH 2 vertical-take-off UAV, based on its field-trial experiences in high-altitude and heavily jammed areas.
India's self-reliance has established its global credibility. With over 725,000 flights completed and more than 80 patents, ideaForge was a first mover in the indigenous development of vertical-take-off-and-landing UAVs in India and is now one of the leading manufacturers worldwide within the dual-use UAV sector.
With a North American partner, Volatus, distributing its products across Canada and the US, and increased interest from several European partners, this showcases the demand for India's indigenous drone capabilities across the world.
Looking ahead, the company plans to embed drones in government and business use cases through its Flyght Cloud platform, which leverages AI to combine real-time drone operations and usable information for decision-making.
This showcases the drone company's trajectory to remain a dual-use firm, with both a commercial and a defence arm, while maintaining its basic pitch of Aatmanirbharata.
