The timing is perfect, after yesterday's horrific green paper.
Thanks to the @AmnestyUK annual media awards for shortlisting my investigation into how #DWP spent years covering up evidence linking it with countless deaths of disabled benefit claimants: disabilitynewsservice.com/de…
From “moral deficiency” to “economic inactivity,” welfare reform rebrands eugenic thinking. Disability reframed as failure of character, sanctions replacing sterilisation. The fit are rewarded, the rest made disposable. #DisabilityJustice#WelfareReform
If you want to write to your Labour MP about disability benefit cuts but have limited spoons, here’s a template from @sensecharity you can use:

Public backlash *does* work at times so let’s keep the pressure up. You too, non-disabled allies!
Disabled people are not a burden. They are our neighbours and friends — and they deserve to live fulfilling lives just like anyone else.
A statement from the Independent Alliance on cuts to welfare.
I NEED you to care about disability on your campus, because headlines are calling for people with disabilities to: lose access to education, lose access to heslthcare, lose access to welfare, be forcibly sterilized. 1/3
Leadbeater repeatedly told me and other opponents of assisted dying that the bill's judicial oversight requirements made it the safest in the world
Now she's scrapped them
MPs need to vote down this dangerous nonsense of a bill

In this symposia, we ask the question:
How does your area of research engage with disability in the geopolitical south and challenge dominant epistemologies and paradigms of disability?

I have osteoarthritis and have been told I have inflammatory arthritis and hypermobility. I've had to make many adjustments to my life. If you have arthritis, what do you wish other people knew about it but don't? And what changes would you like to happen around care and support?
"It’s hard to talk about workload without looking like you are admitting failure." @dkernohan on @Wonkhe absolutely hitting the nail on the head here. Essential reading on overwork in HE.
Finally WonkHE's @dkernohan reflects on the reasons we work too much and the barriers to changing things. A very human account which complements the business/legal cases in the other pieces. wonkhe.com/blogs/why-do-we-a… /4
Such an important paper from colleagues at @BSMSMedSchool@BruceTamilson@BendyBrain & @Autistic_Doc
Receiving an autism diagnosis was life-changing, deeply validating, allowed them to be their true authentic selves, improved mental health

Few autism early interventions (~1/3) targeting “problem behavior” explain why they do, and arguably even more problematically, only 8% of studies in this meta-analysis defined the behaviors they targeted, lumping together e.g. spinning with stealing, fidgeting with fire-setting!
Our statement in full solidarity with Black and brown communities in the face of fascist violence.
'It is not enough to condemn ongoing violence if we refuse to look at how we have normalised Islamophobic and racist state policies, discourse and media coverage'
ALT Disability Rights UK is sickened by the ongoing racist violence erupting across our country. We stand in solidarity with migrant and minoritised communities who are being attacked or who are afraid to go about their daily lives because of the attacks. Many of us have lived experience of racism and we are aware that Disabled people of colour may be or feel at greater risk of harm in these circumstances.
It is not enough to condemn ongoing violence if we refuse to look at how we have normalised Islamophobic and racist state policies, discourse and media coverage over the past few decades. This is the impact of successive governments’ rhetoric stoking division and too little being done by social media platforms to tackle hate and inflammatory speech.
We support the Prime Minister’s assertion that these are not protests but ‘organised, violent thuggery’. The victims of the horrific Southport attack are sidelined and forgotten by the rioters, who are cruelly and cynically exploiting what
