Finished Greek wheat harvest this week. Back to the UK to wait for Oat harvest then out again for olive harvest. It’s hard work being a wannabe Greek farmer… #FarmerNotFarming

Arriving like a blackgrass beacon last night Kevin from pasturecare.com/ arrived with his Zürn Top Cut weed surfer! We got 70 acres cut today. It’s rare that the blackgrass sits proud of our winter crops so it seems the best solution, other than years of purgatory cropping. It’s removed 70-80% of blackgrass which resets the clock at least three years…

The only reason we have this blackgrass issue is down to me time harrowing earlier this spring. None of this blackgrass germinated in the autumn/winter. Therefore I have managed to created the greatest chit ever seen, so it made sense to deal with it now, as you would a flush in the autumn..

If I hadn’t caused this flush, it feels like this issue would continue to escalate. Perhaps trying to delay drilling into the wet winters isn’t the way to approach blackgrass control..? Perhaps pushing it to germinate when it wants to and dealing with it then is a better solution..? I don’t think we’ll see blackgrass sit so proud of the cereal crop every year. But I feel I’ve put a dent in blackgrass’ ego today.

Went fishing this morning with the little ones. Caught some wonderful fish and saw a kingfisher @stuttonsparrows. Haven’t seen one at the lake since I was a kid. Then went to the pub. Having a pie for dinner. It’s now raining! #LivingTheDream #Farming #NotFarming #HappyDays

Surprised there were no tits! This could be a good place to start base-lining UK bird numbers @cutlerstom @stuttonsparrows? All in the name of biodiversity.
Just use the BirdNET app to identify the birds in the background of some German woodland outdoor porn (Chiffchaff and Blackcap). I hope my UK location doesn't confuse the biologists analysing the data too much.
