Plenty of worms, but plenty of compaction after harvest too.

Does anyone know if the FETF #farming equipment and technology fund is likely to open again in 2024? @NFUtweets ? Or has all the money been spent? 🙏

Baled hay vs silage for feeding 🐄 cattle indoors over winter…? Is there a preference if the weather would allow either to be made? From a ley of clover, cocksfoot, chicory and plantain…

Frustrating start to a new herbal ley. 45Ha direct drilled. Very slow to emerge but had plenty of moisture. Then when it does, gets eaten 😞

Herbal ley slowly emerging after 10 days in the ground. Nail biting stuff with £8,500 spent on seed.

Interesting: left me wondering what would've happened had Labour just said, "If you think we're going to give up on a policy that will improve thousands of kids' lives just to try to win a by-election, forget it. We're just not that kind of party." opendemocracy.net/en/uxbridg…

Really liking our lambs this year. Breeding coming into place. NZ Romney X Aberfield put to a Primera. Ideally would have less wool!

Super interesting @baseuk visit to @tjcsimpson learning about his mixed variety cropping, alternative crop management using sheep and cover cropping. Q of day; can we move to all cereal rotation if we have bi-crop and cover crop for diversity?

This poultry farm in Germany is using AI and cameras to track each individual bird’s movement around the clock. And it can follow it when it goes under obstacles and come out the other side. Mind blowing.

When the thing you’d taken for granted and come to rely on starts behaving erratically, it makes you sit up and realise how profound your interdependencies had become. And how you’d been sleepwalking. Welcome to farming in a changing climate.

🧵 A thread on my thoughts on this weeks @Groundswellaguk Festival. My biggest concern for the future of #RegenerativeAgriculture is what seems to be the huge push towards how it can be commercialised. That is not going to be Groundswell’s proudest legacy…⬇️
