Here’s one: > I fly to SF to meet a VC (Tier1 firm) > He tells me a couple hours before he won’t be able to do in-person because he’s not in SF due to a last minute change of schedule (wtf but that can happen) > When I log in on the zoom meeting… he’s clearly in the firm SF HQ > I point it out > He says « oh yeah » Every interaction with them was atrocious btw. Blacklisted.
I was once pitching in a board room at a top 3 VC firm for a $15M Series A. 12 people in the meeting. One of the GPs fully fell asleep. Out cold for 30 minutes. Nobody acknowledged it. Everyone just kept going. I kept presenting my Series A slides to an unconscious man in a Herman Miller chair and somehow that was considered normal. That's venture capital. You might fly across the country to perform for people who may or may not be conscious. It's a dance. And sometimes you lead and sometimes you follow and sometimes your partner is unconscious. If you're raising right now, just know: every founder has a story like this. The process is weird. The power dynamic is weird. You're not crazy for thinking it's weird. No one talks about it because they want to continue raising. But I'm happy to stick my neck out there. It is weird.

@vibedotco is running a copy masterclass in NYC right now. Here's why most OOH flops and why this is strong: I live in SF. Landing a billboard for your startup means "we made it". But it's mostly ineffective. The copy doesn't engage your ICP. I see 22 billboards on my walk to work. Some have just a URL or some tagline like "Superpowers", "Your AI's AI", "AI Banking". I don't have a reason to care. Enter Vibe. In one glance I learn, if I want to target a single company, use Vibe. The copy doesn't try to sell the whole product. That's the website and sales calls job. This board has one job. Push the ICP further down the funnel. It does that. Well done. 👏

LLMs might actually heal AdTech. AdTech profits off inefficiencies it creates itself. LLMs are, by design, inefficiencies killers. They’ll accelerate the transition to a generalized outcome currency. Good.
