In an age when philanthropic intent is often much greater than actual giving, Chuck Feeney created the model for giving while living. He gave virtually his whole fortune while living, ramping down his foundation over time rather than creating a legacy org. atlanticphilanthropies.org/i…

How @atlantic spent over three decades striving for zero—to empty the foundation's coffers, shutter its doors, and give away its entire endowment. bit.ly/2N0h20u

Feeney has given 373,000% of his current net worth over his lifetime. There are several mega-billionaires who've committed to giving most of their wealth away in their lifetime (Zuck, etc.). Feeney is one of few exs. of someone who actually did it. Lots of capital project grants.

It was an honor for me to work for Chuck Feeney @atlantic, the billionaire who lived out his commitment to Giving While Living and took the ego out of big bet philanthropy. I’ll be forever grateful for his example!

We just posted our final Insights book "Zero Is the Hero." It looks at our giving, operations & impact by the numbers. And answers questions like Why give it all away? Where did the $8B come from and go? What do we have to show for it? bit.ly/ZeroIsTheHero #philanthropy

Over its decades-long history, 30% of @atlantic’s big bets went to #SocialChange giving. Why don’t more funders give large gifts to social change? And what has The Atlantic Philanthropies learned? bspan.org/2X9MAon
