I took Anthropic's offer and got my Claude subscription refunded. Opus 4.8 was not cutting it after getting used to Fable. Today I'm going to try 5.5 Extra High as recommended by @awakecoding and see how we go. One thing I already noticed. Fable is opinionated and if I said something wrong it would correct me. Codex just went ahead and implemented what I asked it to do even though my thought was incorrect. Once I figured it out I had to revert it. When I asked why, I got this. I think this is why many folks experienced Fable as a senior engineer someone who knew and was confident about what they were doing.

Maybe the biggest feature of Fable 5 is to make GPT 5.5 extra high look inexpensive in comparison. I used Fable 5 for a complex project completed in less than 24 hours and it cost over $500. I'm pretty sure it only feels better because it's more expensive, like fine wine 🍷
