Funny enough most of the Baja is more Nebraska vibes than California. This is from a lonchería (roadside diner) outside of ciudad constitución

Tiny mango season. Mangos criollos are always the first of the mangos to ripen

“The poverty, it’s the poverty.” They have no AC because adobe and hogans don’t need AC. They act as natural temperature stabilizers. The damn things can get chilly inside on hot summer days. You don’t need AC when your prime constructions regulate temperature as is.
Interestingly, New Mexico appears to be among the least air-conditioned states in the country. No one would guess that one.

Put a little terracota awning on the bodega. In my experience for a flat roof adobe building the edge is the most vulnerable part. And even though they don’t extend much the tiles should help the walls not wash off too bad in the rain

I think all this AI stuff will cause people to appreciate the imperfections in things. Too perfect will code as artificial, rustic/imperfect will come to signify handmade

This is my favorite consistency of clay mix. Like a perfectly tempered scoop of ice cream that is melting slowly in a well chilled bowl

Letting the wet mud rest (dormiendo el barro) for a long time (weeks or months) really adds something nice. Of course with added straw, the plant glue breaks down and dissolves into the mix, but even with no organic material the mix gets better (stickier and more workable)

My kinda carpentry. Just built these stairs for my adobe house. No nails or screws. As usual, burned for strength and insect resistance

Homegrown Thai chili. At a certain latitude these things are perennial. This plant has been fruiting for about two years now, though it always looks like it’s about to die

Not a lot of adobe postíng these days cuz im stuck in carpentry hell. The thing I like about adobe is you can always redo or fix something. Wood just isn’t like that sadly
