The blunthead slug snake isn't like other snakes. This nocturnal reptile, which primarily feeds on slugs and snails, eats using a technique called mandibular sawing. To slice off the indigestible parts of prey, this species slides its jaws back and forth like a saw!

The one thing I always took for granted when I was younger is time. “Oh I won’t worry about that, I have plenty of time”, etc. Before you know it, time leaves you in the dust. You blink and a couple of decades have gone by. Action is more important than words, even if you don’t have everything figured out. Make the most of each day. As somebody put so well, “the ‘good ole days’ are happening right now”. Be grateful for this moment you are living today and take a second to celebrate all you’ve accomplished to get to where you are. “Spiral out… keep going!” HAGW 💪🏻

Meet the ʻIʻiwi! Its specialized beak is perfect for sipping nectar from tube-shaped flowers, and by doing so, it plays an important role in pollination. Once one of the most common Hawaiian birds, it's threatened by human activity.

Something different today. There are few places on earth where evolution is as obvious as it is in the Galapagos, and one of the sights that stunned me the most was seeing Marine Iguanas feed underwater. A clear example of how the Galapagos inspired Darwin. #explore

Check out these rare cloud formations today in the Santa Barbara Channel. A ranger captured this while returning to the mainland. These are asperitas clouds, known for their dramatic wave-like appearance on the underside of the cloud. Asperitas translates to “roughness” in Latin.

I almost didn’t carve a pumpkin this Samhain, but all day there have been Ravens. They called from the forest on my morning run, flew over me as I hung out the washing and cronked from a tall tree near our house in the afternoon. So this is for you, dear Ravens. #HappyHalloween

#DYK not all leeches feed on blood 🩸? Many are predators of invertebrates and some specialize on hunting earthworms🪱 After all, other worms are a perfectly shaped meal for them 🍝 I think this is a species of Orobdella, a group of primarily Japanese leeches that feed on worms
