THE FUTURE The establishment of the Mbale Wildlife Conservation Education Centre marks the beginning of a broader vision to extend similar opportunities to other regions of Uganda. Centres are planned for Gulu, Mbarara, and Toro, ensuring that conservation is no longer confined to protected areas but becomes part of everyday life within communities. Mbale is therefore not just a new tourism product, but a model for how conservation education can be decentralized and integrated into community development across Uganda. Ultimately, the initiative seeks to create a future where Ugandans not only benefit from wildlife and tourism but also become active custodians of the country's rich biodiversity for generations to come. #UWECMbaleLaunch
WHY MBALE? Following feasibility studies conducted across different regions of Uganda, Mbale emerged as the most suitable pilot site due to its accessibility, strategic location, broad catchment area covering Eastern Uganda and Western Kenya, and strong potential to stimulate tourism growth in the region. The Mbale centre has been developed in phases and represents much more than a wildlife exhibit. It serves as a hub for conservation education, wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, community outreach, and tourism development. The centre provides learners with hands-on experiences that support Uganda's competency-based curriculum, transforming it into a living classroom where conservation is taught through experience rather than theory alone. At the same time, the project creates employment opportunities, supports local enterprises, provides markets for community products and services, and strengthens regional economies through tourism-related activities. It also extends vital services such as wildlife rescue, awareness campaigns, and environmental stewardship programmes into surrounding communities. #UWECMbaleLaunch

While we cannot yet conclusively state that the mountain #gorilla population has increased, the signs are certainly encouraging. Over the last five years, Bwindi has recorded around 110 gorilla births a remarkable baby boom for this endangered species. The latest mountain gorilla census data is currently being analysed, and we are optimistic that the results will bring good, if not excellent, news for conservation. Every birth is a testament to the success of long term protection efforts, community support, and the resilience of nature. #conservation #mountaingorilla
Good news from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The Mishaya Gorilla Family in Rushaga has welcomed a newborn baby, increasing the group's membership from 9 to 10 individuals. The baby's mother is Bashekura (Adult Female), adding another exciting chapter to the family's story and a positive milestone for mountain gorilla conservation. #GorillaConservation #VisitUganda

The suspect in the mob attack on Sydney has since been arrested and is now in Police custody.
Mob justice is not justice. It is a crime. The image below is a reminder that in today's world, participating in mob justice does not guarantee anonymity. Every phone camera, CCTV camera, social media post, and eyewitness can become evidence. Many people think that because they acted as part of a crowd, they cannot be identified. The reality is different. One by one, individuals can be identified, arrested, prosecuted, and held personally responsible for assault, grievous harm, or even murder. No matter the accusation against a suspect, every person has a constitutional right to a fair hearing before a court of law. Taking the law into your own hands only creates more victims and turns law-abiding citizens into criminals. If you suspect someone has committed an offence, hand them over to the police and allow the justice system to do its work. A crowd may attack together, but accountability is individual. Think before you join a mob.

On this #HeroesDay, we pay tribute to all Ugandans who have made extraordinary sacrifices for our nation. We also salute the conservation heroes - rangers, community members, partners and frontline personnel who work tirelessly to protect Uganda's wildlife and natural heritage for present and future generations. Their courage, dedication and service remind us that heroism is not only found in history, but also in the daily actions of those who serve a cause greater than themselves. Happy Heroes Day, Uganda. #HeroesDay2026 #ConservationHeroes

Yesterday, I received several responses to this quiz. The answers included: Tour Guide Tourist Guide Safari Guide Guide Interestingly, one word appeared in all the responses: Guide. That raises an interesting question: Are these terms the same, or do they mean different things? What is the difference between: 1. Tour Guide 2. Tourist Guide 3. Safari Guide 4. Guide and 5. Nature Guide Are they interchangeable, or does each have a distinct role, skill set, and area of specialization? Let's hear from tourism professionals, guides, conservationists, and travellers. Share your thoughts in the comments. 👇 #Tourism #Guiding #SafariGuide #NatureGuide #Conservation #ExploreUganda

Yesterday, I visited the UWA Training Academy in Murchison Falls National Park and was encouraged by the dedication, discipline, and determination displayed by the new ranger recruits. Upon completion of their training, they will strengthen the existing ranger force and enhance our capacity to protect wildlife, safeguard protected areas, and combat wildlife crime across Uganda. @ugwildlife #Conservation #WildlifeProtection #Rangers

Translocation of animals by @ugwildlife from the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) in #Entebbe to the newly established Wildlife Conservation Education Centre in #Mbale is underway ahead of its official opening on 12 June 2026. The regional Wildlife Conservation Education Centre will bring conservation education closer to communities, provide opportunities for learning and research, enhance greater appreciation of wildlife and inspire more Ugandans to participate in conservation efforts. #WildlifeConservation #ConservationEducation
