I can’t believe it on Sunday night I saw another basking shark this time at Nairn Beach. What a week it’s been for marine sightings this week: porpoise, bottlenose dolphins, basking sharks, seals & a minke whale!

I thought Basking Shark was 3 fish when I first saw it years ago, here enjoying a close-in feed with its little sidekick which I think is a small Minke, maybe young, unless anyone knows different? @birdinglothian @ELCrangers @EdinburghNats

Incredible start to the day today as we spotted a #baskingshark🦈 cruising along the coast just behind the harbour. There have been a number of sightings this week from the Fife coast, Dunbar & now here.

A rough old week at sea but there’s a lot of food for the big fish. High winds can break up plankton aggregations meaning sharks stay sub-surface. However along with ocean currents they can also supercharge it to make optimal conditions for feeding. #baskingshark #baskingsharks
