Today’s fun SPI: macOS’s libc has a feature where you can hand it a declarative definition of your program’s subcommands to embed in the “__subcommands” section of the binary and it will automatically generate usage output for you. Here it is: github.com/apple-oss-distrib…

Just under 10 years since buying this house and we’ve FINALLY got a better Internet connection than AT&T’s neglected DSL service!

Are Swift and LLVM some sort of club where you need to know the right people to have your pull requests / patches reviewed? I’ve sent changes to each which have not been acted on for multiple weeks now.

The EULA not applicable to themselves I guess. Although this gives them a lot of unfair advantage in the iOS CI space… there is no way for others to compete with them in cost if they can just keep putting macOS on some random Linux servers 😛

It’s that time of year again… Thankfully just a small one, and CalFire jumped on it. #HillFire

A great view of @CALFIRELNU’s Tanker 86 as it was doing low passes over the #HillFire. Quick action kept the fire to around 3 acres.

👨‍💻 Since 2019, I'm running a YouTube channel about the daily grind of building a complete desktop OS & browser from scratch. SerenityOS 🐞 is a Unix-like OS with a 1990's look & feel, written in modern C . Everything is home-made with no dependencies. youtube.com/c/AndreasKling

I didn’t realize it at the time, but this flight past Mt Shasta ended up being my final flight in my Mooney 201. A few weeks later I made the decision to sell, and as of today it has a new home in Louisiana. We’re all sad to see her go.

It’d been a while since I went flying, and I realized I’d not visited Oregon before, so I did some sightseeing this morning. Mt Shasta from 9,500ft.

Another way to put this: The root file system (/) is not an SDK that you may use to build software. Instead use the macOS SDKs installed with Xcode.

I love the phrase "knowing where the bodies are buried" to describe informal institutional knowledge. However, the more experienced I get the more I suspect everything is just a thin layer of topsoil over an infinite pile of corpses.

Watch the whole thing (2 tweets, or follow link to YT). “If you felt unease watching that Target being looted, try to imagine how it must feel for black Americans when they watch themselves being looted every single day. Police in America are looting black bodies.”
(1/2) Trevor on George Floyd, the Minneapolis protests, Ahmaud Arbery & Amy Cooper: “While everyone is facing the battle against coronavirus, black people in America are still facing the battle against racism… and coronavirus.”
