this is crazy because very small model competition submissions often apply scaling based on depth, but real open big models never do

Did Anthropic get more gains out of model scaling than other labs thought was possible? It reminds me of an interesting recent paper, which showed that deep layers in open LLMs are not doing much, and that this can be fixed by scaling the LayerNorm output.

I have massive scars all over my body (proof in the tweet below)
When I was a kid, I had terrible self-esteem
The scars were my biggest insecurity, especially because I also had this small machine implanted in my left pec for injections, so I got bullied a for it
“ Sad story beni :( ”
That’s what you’d think
But then one day I turned 14 and discovered that girls were not, in fact, useless as I previously believed
And to my absolute shock, they LOVED the scars
And just like that, I went from having crippling insecurity to an enormous ego because of one single sentence:
“I love your scars, beni they look so cool”
They literally became my biggest wingmen
Worth the bullying 100%
PS: When I was young I used to bet my friends that I could pull girls with insane made up stories about how I got the scars
I peaked when I made a girl believe that in Switzerland, as per the Toblerone packaging and the flag of Bern, we have wild bears roaming around. So I told her that one day, in my small village in the alps, a baby cub attacked me and in self defense I had killed it (Obviously I had to win the fight)
I really tried to sell the story so I showed the scars I have on my neck, torso etc but then I added that the case became famous in Switzerland because they wanted to throw me in jail for having killed an endangered animal which made me become a local celebrity
Went home with the girl
Best part is that my broke ass friend had to pay for my big mac the next day because he didn't trust the power of the scars

crypto is largely (by public perception and participation per capita) scams, p&ds and ponzis.
I love decentralization, cryptography, privacy, capitalism and censorship resistance enforced by code and coordination.
But these things are not what "crypto" is understood to mean any more.

In complex systems, especially games played against other human beings, you can often gain an edge by being highly creative rather than blindly following game theory
When everyone studies the same material, follows the same principles, and repeats the same “correct” strategies, they often become vulnerable to ideas that sit outside that framework
Not because game theory is wrong, but because most people haven’t deeply studied the counter-strategies to the consensus they are preaching.
We’ve seen this happen again and again in poker. Addamo is probably the most famous example: he pushed aggression and creativity into spots where many players were still thinking too rigidly
More recently, SeaLlama has shown the same thing again
Its easier to be the best by doing things differently from everyone else rather than competing by doing the same exact things they’re doing
