The SaaS apocalypse is happening to products built around repetitive workflows. If your software moves data from one screen to another, AI agents will eventually automate it away. The next generation of winners will own outcomes, dashboards.

Since time immemorial, when a CEO asks a PM at Product Review, “what do you need to 10X users/revenue?”, “what will make you go faster?”, etc The PM steadfastly responds “We need [N] more engineers”. The Eng Mgr nods approvingly A story thread, with some hard truths to swallow:

Meta’s LLM for software testing work is super exciting. This paper describes Meta’s TestGen-LLM tool, which uses LLMs to automatically improve existing human-written tests. TestGen-LLM verifies that its generated test classes successfully clear a set of filters that assure measurable improvement over the original test suite, thereby eliminating problems due to LLM hallucination. We describe the deployment of TestGen-LLM at Meta test-a-thons for the Instagram and Facebook platforms. In an evaluation on Reels and Stories products for Instagram, 75% of TestGen-LLM’s test cases built correctly, 57% passed reliably, and 25% increased coverage. During Meta’s Instagram and Facebook test-a-thons, it improved 11.5% of all classes to which it was applied, with 73% of its recommendations being accepted for production deployment by Meta software engineers. We believe this is the first report on industrial scale deployment of LLM-generated code backed by such assurances of code improvement.

There is a lot of product advice that tells you not to just ship too many features & instead focus on fewer features. While well-intentioned & often correct, this advice can be incorrect & even harmful in some other situations. It can be an Apple Pie Position. Example: In B2B, if you’ve already achieved Feature-Problem fit and are now aiming to take down an established but slow-moving incumbent, it is sometimes a very smart idea to just ship many features that help create the perception of comprehensiveness that is necessary for Solution-Segment fit or Product-Problem fit. The real art here is to make the correct decision of whether it is better to aim for Product-Problem fit or Solution-Segment fit once you’ve reached Feature-Problem fit. This is actually the key question that your product strategy must answer once you have begun to see sustained customer demand after reaching Feature-Problem fit.
