One thing I like about being in my lab is working across multiple crops like clovers, alfalfa, ryegrass, and cowpea (my focus).
That range teaches skills you can apply in any breeding program after PhD!!

We put a spotlight on our PhD Candidate @DklRakshya who is using genomic selection and crop modeling to breed heat-tolerant, climate-ready potatoes!
Florida’s muck soils trap phosphorus, which affects lettuce yields & shelf life.
Our PhD Candidate Jairo Arcos, is boosting phosphorus use efficiency (PUE) by transferring traits from tolerant lines to elite cultivars.

Last week, our lab hosted the USDA-NIFA REEU students at UF. I gave a hands-on demo on how to make crosses in alfalfa, and Dr @ForageBreeding shared our research and gave a tour of the breeding facilities.

Day 1: Students & faculty meet separately. Student session includes a soft-skills workshop poster presentation.

Just got back to Florida’s humid summer after an amazing time at the 2025 @NAPlantBreeders Annual Meeting in Kona, Hawaii
