On the 13th day of Pride, I would like to honour Tove Jansson, the lesbian author and illustrator. Tove is primarily famous for writing and illustrating the Moomins books, with her first novel released in 1945. The Moomins are world famous and as a kid I grew up on their stories.

On the 12th day of Pride, I would like to honour Mark Ashton, a gay rights activist. He formed the "Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM)" to collect donations for the miners on strike at the 1984 Lesbian and Gay Pride march in London. This is dramatised in the film Pride.

Stick an astronaut in a space suit in a vacuum chamber and they still feel full Earth gravity. They’d just be wandering around inside a giant metal room wondering why they’re doing this pointless activity. Great for testing the suit, useless for training the astronaut.

Channel 4 is airing a programme called Virgin Island, which involves virgins (many with autism) working with a ‘surrogate partner therapist’.
The ‘therapy’ culminates with the ‘therapist’ taking their virginity.
This is the antithesis of therapy and a safeguarding nightmare.

Civil engineers have a handy approximation for the curvature of the Earth: the drop from the tangent line is about 8 inches per mile squared.
So a point one mile away drops 8 inches, but two miles away drops 32 inches (8×2²).

If “inverse distance” feels abstract, think of it as “things per metre”.
A metre ruler has 100 marks per metre. That’s 100 m⁻¹. If you're thinking that's just centimetres but with extra steps, you're right — inverse units are often regular units wearing a different hat.
