I've had this account for around 18 years. Can we just assume I'm an adult?

On the 13th day of Pride, I would like to honour Tove Jansson, the lesbian author and illustrator. Tove is primarily famous for writing and illustrating the Moomins books, with her first novel released in 1945. The Moomins are world famous and as a kid I grew up on their stories.
On the 12th day of Pride, I would like to honour Mark Ashton, a gay rights activist. He formed the "Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM)" to collect donations for the miners on strike at the 1984 Lesbian and Gay Pride march in London. This is dramatised in the film Pride.

The correct answer is 100. It is the first in the sequence and meets the criteria required. All numbers that contain 100 have more than one syllable according to the rules of English. Because none of these 100-containing numbers have exactly one syllable, it meets the criteria.

Facebook has decided I’m the target audience for flat‑earth videos. I fear the algorithm has diagnosed me with “gullible”. ⬇️

Stick an astronaut in a space suit in a vacuum chamber and they still feel full Earth gravity. They’d just be wandering around inside a giant metal room wondering why they’re doing this pointless activity. Great for testing the suit, useless for training the astronaut. ⬇️

I was so wrapped up in the flat‑earther’s framing that the obvious answer slid right past me. The fact I momentarily forgot this means the infection is spreading. Please send memes, science, or biscuits.

If "Bobby Tables" had just enrolled in school when @XKCD 327 was published, he'd be around 23 years old by now. I wonder what he's up to.

Morning all. It's a bit chilly here at the coast and the big shitty seagulls are circling. At least it's not raining (yet). This must be that global warming I've heard about. Have a lovely Saturday (Caturday?)

Jean Luc Picard never left the Nexus. Everything the character has experienced since Generations was a Nexus illusion.

"This sounds like a really bad idea." -- No-one in the commissioning or production teams, it would appear.
Channel 4 is airing a programme called Virgin Island, which involves virgins (many with autism) working with a ‘surrogate partner therapist’. The ‘therapy’ culminates with the ‘therapist’ taking their virginity. This is the antithesis of therapy and a safeguarding nightmare.

Civil engineers have a handy approximation for the curvature of the Earth: the drop from the tangent line is about 8 inches per mile squared. So a point one mile away drops 8 inches, but two miles away drops 32 inches (8×2²). ⬇️

If “inverse distance” feels abstract, think of it as “things per metre”. A metre ruler has 100 marks per metre. That’s 100 m⁻¹. If you're thinking that's just centimetres but with extra steps, you're right — inverse units are often regular units wearing a different hat. ⬇️

Now take the quantity “8 inches per mile squared”, convert it into SI units, and then invert it back into a regular distance. What do you get? 12,745 km. Which is… the approximate diameter of the Earth. Woah.
