German day-ahead hourly prices surged to an 18-year high of EUR 936.28/MWh in today’s auction, driven by wind generation plummeting well below seasonal norms.
Prices peaked between 17:00-18:00 CET, while the spot price hit EUR 395.34/MWh, the highest since December 2022.
Wind output is expected to drop to 2.8 GW during the hour, with residual load soaring to 67.8 GW, far above the seasonal average. Prices above EUR 500/MWh remain rare, with just six hours crossing this threshold so far.

Wow. Imagine the shock for the Daily Mail when it finds out Tory plans were for fines of £5k - later reduced to £3k - for each missed heat pump sale. What @Ed_Miliband has done is to reduce that to £500. As @TorstenBell says Headline should read “Miliband slashes Tory boiler tax”
