The end goal is compute freedom. If you have a computer like device - phone, pc, tablet, or console. Grab a usb stick with a game or program and plug it in. If it's built for that architecture the game or program will just work. No login or permission required from anyone else.

While the Linux Kernel is quickly becoming “Vibe Coded”, many other Open Source projects are outright banning all AI / LLM contributions. QEMU - “Policy is to DECLINE any contributions which are believed to include or derive from AI generated content.” NetBSD - AI generated code is “presumed to be tainted code, and must not be committed.” Zig - Total ban on using AI in any way. “No LLM-generated content”, “No LLMs for translation.”, “No LLMs for finding bugs.”, “No talking about use of chatbot/LLM services.” OBS Studio - “Code must be human written.”

The entire event yesterday, launching missions, landers, rovers, tech demos building a Moon Base, and sci-fi capabilities like MoonFall, brought to you by those who Dare Mighty Things. Just the very beginning. What a time 🇺🇸
Four JPL-built propulsive drones – known as MoonFall – will survey the lunar surface at potential @NASAArtemis landing sites in unprecedented detail. The mission is part of the initial phase of the @NASAMoonBase initiative. Learn more: jpl.nasa.gov/missions/moonfa…

#Nintendo used this default metal texture (downscaled) of the SGI workstation for Metal Mario in Super Mario 64. 👀 Allegedly the texture was also used in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. #supermario64 #N64

Uber’s COO has said that it’s getting “harder to justify” its AI costs because there was no way to show a link between AI spend and any meaningful increase in useful features. This is the first time I’ve seen a company say this directly. businessinsider.com/uber-coo…

The same conversation is happening across tech right now and many of us saw it coming. Tokens got burned for millions of dollars without any real significant ROI to show for it. The largest accounts with OpenAI and Anthropic subs have FDEs being thrown at them to retain the subscriptions as the first year hype winds down. The rest will probably slowly churn. I think AI is here to stay, but the monetization model will undergo a lot of changes over the next 18 months.

With news of Flatpak 2 possibly requiring Wayland... It's worth noting that not only are half of all Linux users *not* using Wayland... but Wayland's marketshare has actually gone *down* over the last two years. In other words: Anyone making the claim that a hard dependency on Wayland is reasonable because "most Linux users use Wayland"... is not telling the truth.
Half of Linux Users Stick with X11, Despite Years of Wayland Being Forced Wayland has been the default for several years on the largest Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Fedora, etc.), yet Wayland usage has actually decreased since 2024.
